Dear children It is summer vacation time, a time to relax and have fun with family and friends as well as fruitfully occupy in various scholastic and co-scholastic areas. So pack and unpack your bags, enjoy rides or board flights and be a globe trotter. It s time to enliven your spirit of adventure and give vent to your imagination and virtualize your creativity indoors as well as outdoors. We recommend some cool things that you can do to spend your vacation time! Try your hands at making new cool & refreshing drinks, relishing different flavours of ice cream. Explore new areas near your house and in your immediate neighbourhood. Keep yourself busy by doing new art & craft activities and display them in your house. Read plenty of books and become a member of a library in the neighbourhood, with the help of your parents. Make a list of characters you liked in the books you have read. Keeping in mind the most interesting factor of student s interest, we have designed theme based captivating projects/assignments to be completed during the summer vacation. This would encourage in-depth learning, strengthen concepts and prepare ground for overall improvement.

READING TIME: (for all) Class IV ENGLISH Reading is important because it develops the mind. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Reading helps to develop language skills. It also helps to learn to listen. Read the following books. *Black Beauty by Anna Swell *The Secret Zoo by Bryan Chick *Gulliver s Travels by Jonathan Swift *Little Goody Two Shoes by Oliver Goldsmith *Arabian Nights Stories (Any Two) Read newspaper every day and note down the achievements of India on an A4-sheet. ROLL NO. 1-9 Write a brief essay describing a season in India. You could include the following points: weather, fruits and flowers, festivals, food and clothes (on an A3 sheet) ROLL NO. 10-18 We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down. Visit any monument in Delhi. Write a short paragraph (in 100 words) on an A-4 size sheet about your experience of the visit. You can also paste a picture of the monument. ROLL NO. 19-27 Make a Bookmark A bookmark is a thin marker, commonly made of card, leather or fabric, used to note the progress of reading in a book. It enables the reader to return to the page being read with ease. Cut a 6 inch by 1.5 inch strip from a handmade paper. Paste the picture of any less-known monument of India along with its name on one side. On the other side of the bookmark write a historical fact related to that monument. Make a small hole on the top and tie a thick string/cord through it.

ROLL NO. 28-36 Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language. Compose a short poem describing the benefits of Travelling. Step 3 Pick a title for your poem Next step is to pick a title from the extract you have written which justifies the conclusion. Try to make it simple and thought provoking. Don t try to use fancy or difficult words in your title. Find any two monuments of India which are symmetrical in design and paste pictures on an A4 sheet. Show lines of symmetry. Monuments built by the kings in different era throw light on the past history of India. Have you ever wondered that there are many monuments in India having scientific importance. Roll no. 21-30 CULTURAL HERITAGE Indian Culture and traditionshave now become renowned all across the world. But seldom do we give a thought why things are done in certain specific ways. Find out amazing scientific reasons behind any five traditions in India. Write on an A3 sheet and support it with related pictures. For example: 1. Namaskar (Joining both palms together to greet)-there is a scientific reason behind the Namaskar in Hindu culture. Joining both hands ensures touching the tips of all the fingers together, which are linked to pressure points in the eyes, ears, and mind. Pressing them together is said to activate these, helping us remember that person for a long time. Roll no. 31-38

India is known for its diversity all over the globe. Ethnic clothing is just one of the things that distinguishes one part of India from the other. The craftsmanship with which artisans create traditional dresses is really incredible. Make a puppet of traditional dress of any one state with the help of coloured paper and cloth pieces. You can make a daily record of the places you visit, the monuments you explore, the food you eat and the experiences you have. Also write about the people, their clothes and culture. Try and include descriptions of landscape, weather and scenic beauty of the place.
