*************************************************************** IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR NAME **4th Grade Summer Assignments** Read the book, Island of the Blue Dolphins, by Scott O Dell. Complete the Summer Review, and it will be collected on the first day of school. Using Google Docs or Word, type a first person narrative (as if you are Karana) about your three favorite parts of Island of the Blue Dolphins. Make sure that your paragraph(s) are detailed, and in chronological order (the order in which events occurred). By reading your paper, I want to be able to visualize your experience on the island. Print this document out, and it will be collected on the first day of school. Summer is time for math, too! In order to be prepared for new 4 th grade math skills, we want you to practice the skills you learned in 3 rd grade. This summer, sign up at khanacademy.org (or log in if you already have an account). You will need a parent to sign in with you because you are under 13 years of age. Although you can explore many subjects at Khan Academy, make sure you include the 3 rd grade math curriculum. To do so, please follow the directions on the following page. The class code is: A4PAZ4 If you have any problems, email me: sturges@stanne.com. I will be able to view your progress, so stay active! You should plan on visiting Khan Academy at least 2-3 times per week during the summer. Don t wait until the last minute because the site can lock you out if you are on it too long. Hints are available for all the questions--take advantage of the extra help if you need it. An online scratch pad is also available or you can use pencil and paper. Your homepage displays your progress, as well as videos to watch, and practice activities to complete. You can earn energy points to upgrade your avatar and earn badges. Get a head start so you ll begin 4th grade on point! When you have completed ALL the lessons, email me with a screen shot, or a note that you have completed it. The program continuously updates, so if you finish it 2 weeks before school starts, and I login to check your progress on

the first day, it will no longer show 100% complete. So make sure you send me an email as soon as you have completed this assignment! PLEASE NOTE: The Island of the Blue Dolphins reading & writing portion will be collected on the first day of school. Please practice your multiplication facts. They need to be mastered by the time you come to 4th grade! You should also have your basic knowledge of addition, subtraction, and division facts mastered as well.
