2008-2009 LIBRARY SURVEY Student Responses

1. Please rate the following resources. How well do they satisfy your information needs? (Comments) Well, I'd been attempting to take out a certain DVD - Singin' In the Rain - for several months by the time that the year was over. Whoever had it wasn't returning it. It would be nice if there were more pressure put on people with late materials, and perhaps reminders sent out just before something is due and then at regular intervals when it is overdue. I want to be able to view some of the journals online, but I cannot, which means that I have to go back to campus to read articles. This is difficult and a hassle... I wish the library had a few times in which they were open 24hours, like near finals. Also, in the future, to have a few sound-proof rooms because I can hear everything in the other rooms. too few computers, with improper software to run applications. hours do not accommodate student schedules as it closes too early. i just think we need alot more computers... there are so many students in the library during the day there is not nearlly enough computers for everyone. I would have to wait around for an hour or so just to print something out. Everything else was good i think. why are there so many useless librarians? based on my experience over the past four years, it seems that most of the librarians are unnecessary to the library's efficiency and are a waste of eastern's financial resources. this has been confirmed through many conversations with various student workers. additionally, what is the point of not allowing student workers to do book searches for other students? it is not a difficult task which any college student can handle, and there is often not a free computer to use solely for this purpose. this could also eliminate the need for the never-present reference staff. Keep getting more movies. Journal articles that are in Eastern's library are difficult to find/navigate. There should be some instructions for finding journal articles within Eastern's library online or something. The library should stay open until midnight every night and have longer hours on the weekend (maybe not until midnight). Staplers and hole punchers would be nice to have at each printer (lock them to the desk if you think people are going to steal them)! Thu, 5/7/09 9:18 PM Thu, 5/7/09 9:51 AM Wed, 5/6/09 11:31 PM Wed, 5/6/09 10:49 PM Wed, 5/6/09 8:53 PM Wed, 5/6/09 12:20 AM Tue, 5/5/09 4:33 PM

Need more computers. Tue, 5/5/09 12:56 PM N/A I have difficulty using the myathens at home As this is an academic library, I think that some of the bestseller purchases are inappropriate. new purchases should focus on resources that will help students learn and study. This includes good works of fiction and other popular genres, but some of the books and movies on display do not fit this category. They are not worth the money, and take away these monetary resources from other books which would be helpful for learning and enrichment. Buy less bestsellers or no bestsellers at all. An academic institution should have a library suited to its academic needs; if you wish to read a bestseller, then you should go to a public library. A few key reference works most definitely need to be added to the library, especially those which would benefit the Christian Studies department, such as The COMPLETE Anchor Bible Commentary Series. It would also be nice to display the most recent Journals in all scholastic fields represented at Eastern. the services that i used were great We really need to make sure that people do not get charged for stuff they turned in on time. I had that happen to me 2-3 times for DVD's. The first time, I simply paid my 50 cents. The second time, I had to notify the manager in charge, who never responded to my email. This did not make overly satisfied with the library services. More journals would be helpful for research. Less best sellers and more academic books. This is a library on a college campus for our research needs and you should fulfill those needs better. I'm glad we have more recent movies. I just hope we can keep up with movies in the future. The student workers are not very helpful. They should get more training in what the library offers and where materials are located. I believe the library continues to improve and has become a place where students can broaden their horizons. I do not utilize the library very much Tue, 5/5/09 11:00 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:57 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:53 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:45 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:40 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:39 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:36 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:31 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:29 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:25 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:23 AM

3. If you answered "Yes" to question #2, which of the following topics would you attend a workshop on? Please check all that apply. (Comments) i've never been to an interesting or helpful technology based workshop. Wed, 5/6/09 12:20 AM Ideally these would be great, but I don't know that I would actually go to them during the academic year because of classes and work. Workshops on Photoshop would be cool. I guess navigating the new Office version as compared to the old version would be helpful too. I hate the new Office version! Tue, 5/5/09 4:33 PM My athens how to use it at home I have difficulty logging in Add a few more current DVDs. Tue, 5/5/09 10:57 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:29 AM 4. How else can the library provide you with better service? (Comments) Ask people if they need help rather than always sitting at the desk. To fix the computers and to add more. I'm always hunting for one! And when i get one, the internet doesn't always work :( Stay open longer so that students can study. the extended hours offered during finals should be the standard hours at minimum more computers More computers on the Third Floor, if possible, would be helpful. Also, locating specific books can be a little confusing--there's a method for it, but right now it is rather obscure. More information on that would be helpful. More computers. we have over a thousand students all forced to live on campus and our library has less than 30 computers and five printers to share. Or if you can't get more computers, at least make it so people can't just watch tv shows on them while other students need to print out assignments or get work done. it's very stressful when the library, of all places, doesn't have enough room to let you get your work done Thu, 5/7/09 9:51 AM Wed, 5/6/09 11:31 PM Wed, 5/6/09 10:49 PM Wed, 5/6/09 8:53 PM Wed, 5/6/09 7:16 AM Wed, 5/6/09 2:35 AM

--hardcopy reserves are a waste of time; they are better accessed only on the internet. --free printing = very good --more computers would be great --useful primary literature for different majors; allow them to be checked out or have free photocopying for said literature. Maybe limit the time that a person can spend on the computer, or develop some type of system of prioritizing who gets to use them. Many times I need to print an assignment and I can't because people are using the library computers to check Facebook, etc. I dont think making the study rooms only available to groups is a good idea. They are sometimes the only quiet area to study. The big rooms by the windows are usually loud. If the study rooms are for groups, then there should be another designated quiet area. Or only some of the study rooms should be used for groups. better movies! Wed, 5/6/09 12:20 AM Tue, 5/5/09 8:13 PM Tue, 5/5/09 5:52 PM Tue, 5/5/09 4:48 PM Longer hours throughout the year, not just finals time please! :D Tue, 5/5/09 4:03 PM More movies More Computers, less computer problems, provide snacks on tuesdays and continue the excellent service that is currently provided by the staff Tue, 5/5/09 3:33 PM Tue, 5/5/09 3:01 PM Update the online journals, some of them I was not able to use and it was a waste of time. Otherwise I love the library! Better organize the journals downstairs If the library was open later all year, besides just during finals week, that would be great. I know it might not be very full, but there are many students who would take advantage of it. Also, more computers would also be a big help. There just are not enough for all resident students. Often when I want to print off a paper before class I have to wait 10 minutes then am late for class. Longer hours on Friday and Saturday! the movies are a great addition to the library... it would be super neat if the movie collection could be expanded as time goes on! Tue, 5/5/09 2:51 PM Tue, 5/5/09 2:30 PM Tue, 5/5/09 2:22 PM Tue, 5/5/09 1:41 PM Tue, 5/5/09 1:28 PM

Extend hours a little more. More study lounges. Keep parties of 2 or less out of them. Tue, 5/5/09 1:21 PM Tue, 5/5/09 12:56 PM Later hours for students to study (open past 11 pm) Tue, 5/5/09 12:56 PM Have more up to date resources, especially in biblical and theological studies. Better E-Z Borrow Service, more variety of books Tue, 5/5/09 12:06 PM Tue, 5/5/09 11:31 AM Longer hours Tue, 5/5/09 11:19 AM If it is possible, more computers would be a good thing because sometimes it is difficult to find an available computer. bigger supply of books, half the time the books I need for research aren't available here, but in other colleges. N/A Tue, 5/5/09 11:17 AM Tue, 5/5/09 11:13 AM Tue, 5/5/09 11:00 AM Block Facebook; it is rather perturbing when you're waiting to use a computer and someone is sitting on Facebook, nonchalantly parousing their "picture comments" and "friend requests." thanks. More computers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too often it is much too difficult to find a computer. This is a big problem for those of us that rely on them to complete work and print out documents. Longer hours. Open at 7, close later. More computers Can we reserve DVD's? Overall, the Library is okay. Give freshmen a tour/tutorial of the library and its services during freshman orientation. Explain E-Z Borrow to the INST 150 classes. Found it to be the most valuable asset of Warner Library. See above Tue, 5/5/09 10:45 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:45 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:39 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:39 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:38 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:36 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:36 AM

Expanding the amount of book resources on certain subjects. For example, there is very little selection on any topics pertaining Islam, even though we have a class on the subject, so that made paperwriting and research more difficult. So just getting more books on a wider variety of subjects. Thanks! that's it. A bigger selection of DVDs would be nice. Tue, 5/5/09 10:35 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:35 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:32 AM It would be very nice if there were more computers available to the students. Thanks Please bring back the late night Donut night that was offered last Fall. Tue, 5/5/09 10:30 AM Tue, 5/5/09 10:29 AM I really think workshops are a good thing. Even if it takes a while to build up student interest or attendance. I really like that idea. Tue, 5/5/09 10:23 AM
