Who is Banksy? Lots of the art you saw at the beginning was created in the 20 th Century. Banksy is a modern artist, working now. What is unusual about Banksy s art? What has he used to paint the pictures? What has he painted the pictures on? Banksy is a nickname. Nobody really knows his real name, or what he looks like!
Who is Banksy? Banksy doesn t just use spray paint to create his art. He is also famous for his art installations with lots of sculptures and scenery. He once made a fake theme park, with lots of scary rides! Would you like to take a trip to this theme park? Does it look friendly? Art installations: Art that is 3D and takes place in a certain area.

Why are we talking about this? The artwork we saw being shredded is called Balloon Girl. It was up for sale in an auction. For sale! Banksy secretly put a shredding machine into the picture frame years ago. As soon as the lady bought the painting, it was destroyed! People think the painting will be worth even more money now that it is shredded. Many people called what Banksy did a stunt ; something that attracts lots of attention. Auction: A type of selling where things are sold to the person who offers the most money (the highest bidder).
Why are we talking about this? Imagine you just bought this painting for 1 million (that s how much it cost!) How would you feel when it was shredded before your eyes? Would you want to keep it? Keep it it s still cool! Bin it it s rubbish now.

What is art? Some people think that Banksy doesn t make art because he paints it as graffiti on the side of buildings. Often without the asking the owner s permission too! When he shredded his own painting, a lot of people said that can t be art either. What do you think? Is the shredded painting still a piece of art? Or is it ruined?
