Do you think Banksy s recent stunt is art? Do you know anything about this picture? Don t tell anyone if you do!

Starter: What art do you like? Excited On the next slide you will see seven famous pieces of art! Decide which one is your personal favourite. Think about how it makes you feel. Explain your choice to a group. Happy Sad Angry Scared

Starter: What art do you like? Excited 1 2 3 Happy Sad 4 Angry Scared 5 6 7

Who is Banksy? Lots of the art you saw at the beginning was created in the 20 th Century. Banksy is a modern artist, working now. What is unusual about Banksy s art? What has he used to paint the pictures? What has he painted the pictures on? Banksy is a nickname. Nobody really knows his real name, or what he looks like!

Who is Banksy? Banksy doesn t just use spray paint to create his art. He is also famous for his art installations with lots of sculptures and scenery. He once made a fake theme park, with lots of scary rides! Would you like to take a trip to this theme park? Does it look friendly? Art installations: Art that is 3D and takes place in a certain area.

Why are we talking about this? Click to watch a video. What is happening? Where are they? Was anything unexpected? 0:00-0:54 Unexpected: Something which causes surprise. https://safeshare.tv/x/z4zudvf2pnc

Why are we talking about this? The artwork we saw being shredded is called Balloon Girl. It was up for sale in an auction. For sale! Banksy secretly put a shredding machine into the picture frame years ago. As soon as the lady bought the painting, it was destroyed! People think the painting will be worth even more money now that it is shredded. Many people called what Banksy did a stunt ; something that attracts lots of attention. Auction: A type of selling where things are sold to the person who offers the most money (the highest bidder).

Why are we talking about this? Imagine you just bought this painting for 1 million (that s how much it cost!) How would you feel when it was shredded before your eyes? Would you want to keep it? Keep it it s still cool! Bin it it s rubbish now.

What is art? What makes something a piece of art. Is it.

What is art? You may have noticed that a lot of Banksy s work is painted on street walls. This is called graffiti. Have you ever seen any yourself? 0:00-2:01 Even though graffiti can look nice, it s painted on walls that often don t belong to the artist, and costs money to rub off. For this reason some people say that Banksy s work isn t art because it s graffiti. Click to hear people s views on graffiti. Do you think it counts as art? Use your list to help your discussion. https://safeshare.tv/x/ss5bc7258b015c0

What is art? Some people think that Banksy doesn t make art because he paints it as graffiti on the side of buildings. Often without the asking the owner s permission too! When he shredded his own painting, a lot of people said that can t be art either. What do you think? Is the shredded painting still a piece of art? Or is it ruined?

Do you think Banksy s recent stunt is art? No No Banksy was trying to make more money by ruining his painting. You can t just destroy something and call it art. Isn t art about making things, not ruining them! Anyone could destroy something. It doesn t take a lot of skill. 15

Do you think Banksy s recent stunt is art? Yes Yes Just because the work is halfdestroyed, doesn t make it less of a work of art. It just means it s a new work of art! Banksy is showing that art can be lots of different things. He wanted to destroy his art work to show how silly it is to pay a lot of money for art. 16
