Guidelines for submitting a manuscript to the PMA06 proceedings volumes There will be three journals to which EVERYBODY (including those who did not have an oral presentation) can submit a manuscript: 1. PMA06 Special Issue in Annals of Botany (see section I. for instructions to authors) 2. Journal of Computer Science and Technology (see section II. for instructions to authors) 3. International Journal of Virtual Reality (see section III. for instructions to authors) There will also be a Proceedings book which will contain papers not submitted to any of the above journals (see section IV. and section VI. for instructions to authors) as well as edited versions of papers published in the journals (see section V. for instructions to authors). In this last case, we do stress that it is not possible to publish exactly the same text in both the journal and the proceedings book. The proceedings book will be published by IEEE CPS. - CONTENT - I- Instructions for authors to the PMA06 Special Issue in Annals of Botany p2 II- Instructions for authors to Journal of Computer Science and Technology III- Instructions for authors to the International Journal of Virtual Reality IV- Instructions for authors to the Conference Proceedings volume only V- Instructions for authors with accepted papers in a journal p4 VI- Instructions for authors with refused papers in a journal p4 VII- CALENDAR p5 1/5
I- Instructions for authors to the PMA06 Special Issue in Annals of Botany Articles may take the form of: 1. Standard research papers ( ORIGINAL ARTICLE or TECHNICAL ARTICLE ). These should normally not exceed 10000 words overall. 2. Short papers (SHORT COMMUNICATION ) or short opinion papers( VIEWPOINT ). These should not exceed 6000 words 3. Full-length reviews ( REVIEW ) of up to 24000 words The subject matter does not have to coincide exactly with your oral presentation, as long as it is broadly concerned with mathematical modeling in relation to plants or crops. Your articles should be submitted by 31st January 2006 online using the EJPress homepage, which can be accessed at: http://aob.msubmit.net/ Before preparing your manuscript please read carefully the Journal s Instructions to Authors. This is easily down loadable from the Annals of Botany s Home Page (www.aob.oupjournals.org). At the top of your manuscript, you should type 'PMA06 Special Issue'. When submitting online - on the first of the authors' screens there is a box called 'Special Section'. You should select 'Special Issue' from the drop down menu provided. Below this is another box called 'Manuscript Comment'. Here, you should type 'PMA06 Special Issue'. If you have any problems or queries concerning the actual process of submission please contact the Assistant Editor of Annals of Botany Dr David Frost. He can be reached by e-mail (david.frost@bristol.ac.uk); by telephone (++44 (0)117 3316770); by fax (++44 (0)117928 9757) or by letter (Annals of Botany, School of Biological Sciences, University of Bristol, Woodland Road, Bristol BS8 1UG, UK. II- Instructions for authors to Journal of Computer Science and Technology Articles may be published as a Regular Paper (length is not seriously limited.), or a Short Paper (not more than 5 typewritten pages). For all manuscripts submitted to JCST, a list of 3-5 keywords and an abstract of 100-200 words are required. All parts of the manuscript should be typed with JCST-STYLE (WORD, LATEX) (see http://jcste.ict.ac.cn/english/downloads.asp?elb=9 for more details to download). The subject matter does not have to coincide exactly with your oral presentation, as long as its contribution in computer science is well explained. Your manuscripts should be submitted by 31st January 2006 to pma06@liama.ia.ac.cn. For queries concerning scientific content please contact: Dr Xiaopeng ZHANG, LIAMA, CA- SIA, PO Box 2728, Beijing, PR China. E-mail: xpzhang@nlpr.ia.ac.cn. III- Instructions for authors to the International Journal of Virtual Reality Articles may be published as a Regular Paper. All parts of the manuscript should be typed with IJVR-STYLE (see http://liama.ia.ac.cn/pma06/format/ijvr_word.zip). The subject matter does not have to coincide exactly with your oral presentation, as long as its contribution in Virtual Reality is well explained. Your manuscripts should be submitted by 31st January 2006 to pma06@liama.ia.ac.cn. For queries co scientific content please contact: Dr Xiaopeng ZHANG, LIAMA, CASIA, PO Box 2728, Beijing, PR China. E-mail: xpzhang@nlpr.ia.ac.cn. IV- Instructions for authors to the Conference Proceedings volume only Instructions for authors are given on the PMA06 website. Authors of posters are invited to submit a 4 page long paper and authors of oral presentations are invited to submit 8 page long 3/5
manuscripts. Papers will be reviewed by two members of the PMA06 scientific committee. Deadline for submission is 31 January 2006. V- Instructions for authors with accepted papers in a journal PMA06 wishes to compile all papers into the conference proceedings book published by IEEE CPS, including those published in the journals. However, there is a technical difficulty with the copyright as different publishing houses are involved, so it is not possible to reproduce papers published in a journal in the conference proceedings volume. Therefore, we would like to invite authors to submit a shorter version of their paper (if accepted by a journal) to the Proceedings volume. We do stress that it is not possible to publish exactly the same text in a shortened version, there needs to be enough difference between the two papers to avoid infringement of copyright. With regard to figures, you can either redo the figures in a different format, or make a full acknowledgment to the original source of the material including the journal name, volume, issue, page numbers, year of publication, title of article. We suggest that you submit a 3-4 page long paper to the proceedings volume (see section IV. for procedure), focusing more in the theoretical or technical aspects of your work. If your manuscript is accepted by the journal, please submit your short paper to the proceedings volume once you have carried out revisions to your accepted manuscript. Your manuscript should be formated according to the IEEE CPS publication rules. The format for the conference proceedings volume is available on the PMA06 web pages. http://liama.ia.ac.cn/pma06. We are aiming at a deadline around 30 May 2006 for this procedure. VI- Instructions for authors with refused papers in a journal For many reasons, e.g. the topic does not fit the subject area of the journal or the quality of the paper is not high enough, your submitted paper will maybe be refused for publication in the targeted journal. In this case, the PMA06 editors can decide to publish your paper in the proceedings book once you have carried out revisions to your manuscript. 4/5
