Directions and Implementation Thank you so much for purchasing my Forms of Energy Flip-Flap Book! I hope you enjoy implementing it in your classroom. This Flip-Flap book is to be used in conjunction with your lesson plans on Forms of Energy. After you teach your lessons and/or experiments on the different forms of energy using big books or mentor texts, you can have the students complete this flip-flap book. This resource can be used during each of your energy lessons or it can be used as an authentic assessment at the conclusion of your energy unit. There is an optional Opinion Writing page at the end of the unit with a graphic organizer that accomplanies it. This page can be added to the last page of the flip flap book if you would like. To begin this unit, first have the students complete all of the writing and coloring for each page. When they have completed that, they may cut out each shape. Then add three staples to the far left of the flip-flap book. GOOD TIP: If you plan on putting these flip-flap books up on your bulletin board and it drives you a little crazy that the pages open up and DO NOT stay flat, I have and EASY FIX for that. Instead of stapling it on the far left, put ONE or TWO STAPLES at the top of EACH letter so that the letters flip UP instead of over to the left like a book. This will allow your flip-flap books to stay flush with your bulletin board JJ VIDEO TUTORIAL If you would like to see a video tutorial of how to create and assemble my Flip-Flap Books, check out my blog at http://simplyskilledinsecond.blogspot.com/2013/07/flip-flap-books-demystified.html Please Note: You will need LEGAL SIZED PAPER for THREE of the letters in the flip-flap book. The letters E, E, and R will print on an 8 ½ x 11 pieces of copy paper. However, the letters N, G & Y need LEGAL SIZED PAPER (8 ½ x 14). Most home printers can accommodate this size paper. Please see the attached pictures of the finished project.

Printing Instructions Each letter will be printed on 8 ½ x 11 OR 8 ½ x 14 copy paper. When you are printing the letters N, G, & Y please note you MUST change the PRINTER SETTINGS in TWO places. First, change the PAPER SIZE to legal. Then, you must change the PRINTER SETTINGS as well to legal. If you only change ONE setting, the letters N, Gm & Y will NOT ALIGN correctly. You must change the settings in both places for each letter to align correctly in your flip-flap book.

Options I have included TWO forms of this flip-flap book. One set of pages has Energy Clipart on each letter. One set of pages does NOT have Energy Clipart on each letter with the exception of the Y page. I added an additional page on Kinetic and Potential Energy. This page DOES NOT have to be used. If you do use this page, place it AFTER the R page in the flip-flap book. The Light Energy page offers two choices as well. One page asks the students to illustrate reflection, refraction, and absorption. The other page asks students to illustrate the meaning of transparent, translucent, and opaque. I added both of these options to allow teachers the flexibility to address the concepts that they teach within their energy unit.

This page can be an optional lesson. You can have your students choose which form of energy they believe is the most important and support their opinion with researched-based reasons. They can first brainstorm their topic sentence, supporting details, and a conclusion on the graphic organizer. Then they can write a rough draft of their paragraph on the sheet provided, edit their writing, and complete a final copy that can be added to the last page of the flip flap book.

This is how the Energy Flip-Flap Book looks when it is completed and assembled.
