Figure Retirement Program: Dr. Deshpande Sir ABOUT WDN LIBRARY The College has a three storied library in main college building, having total area of about 612 sq meters. Sir Chintamanrao always regarded the college as his own and did everything for it. Shrimant Sir Gangadharrao Genesh alias Balasaheb Patawardhan presented to the college a wonderful collection of books along with cupboards consisting of 4797 books. This was the foundation of the library and in difference of Sir Gangadharrao Patawardhan s 13

wishes to this library has been named after his late wife SHRIMANT SOUBHAGYAWATI UMABAISAHEB PATWARDHAN LIBRARY. The library is a previous, well equipped and is well known in Western Maharashtra. This colossal library building was inaugurated at the hands of late Shri. Mahamahopadhaye D.V.Potdar, the Vice-chancellor, University of Pune, Pune on the 21 st. December 1961. WCS Library is recognized today as one of the best and well equipped library in Arts and Science. It has three storied building in the central college building. Library has spacious study Room, Periodical Section, Reference Section & Library has rich collection of arts and a science subjects. The first book purchased by the college was recorded on 23/07/1923 in the Accession Register and this book is SHAKESPEARIAN GRAMMER by E.A. Abbott and since then the library has started growing towards gradual and steady progress. Library has rich collection of arts and science subject book collection is near about 125203 in volumes and 83882 in titles and the total cost of the book is Rs.10000,734.00 (One Crore Seven Hundred Thirty Four only). WDN Library has rare, varied and rich collection. Library comprises about 89722 valuable books and subscribes to 119 regional, national and international journals. It has 11 newspapers and 6300 e-journals and 30, 00000 e-books under N-List Program of INFLIBNET, Ahmedabad. Library has computerized with Vidyasagar library management software and it has doing the all the functions of the library with Barcode system. Library has also Provided OPAC facility and open access system for PG and teachers of the college. 2. Donors 3. Legacy of Librarian Shri. Gokhale (1923- ) Shri. Paranjape Shri. K.B. Dixit Shri. J.M.Masutage Shri. A.S. Kulkarni Prof. Y.S Raste (1980-2010): He was appointed librarian in this college in 1980. He was enthusiastic librarian. He loves books, readers and teachers by given devotionally better library services to the readers. During his tenure he was committed to 14

develop the library collection, opened different sections of the library and provided variety of services to its users. He organized the library thoroughly. Prof.Smt. B. P. Koparkar( 2012-13) M. Com., M.Lib., SET Mrs. Bharati Koparkar was worked as the Librarian from year 2012 to 2013. She was on 1st Sept. 1995 in BMCC College, Pune. She took lots of efforts to develop the library. She was transferred to Fergusson College, Pune in 2013 Prof. D. D. Waghmare M.Sc.(Botany), M.Lib.& I.Sc., SET/NET (2014- Till Date) Prof. Damodar D. Waghmare, M.Sc., M.Lib.& I.Sc. SET, took charge of the library on 18th June 2013. He is highly qualified and well conversant with the library automation, computerization and digitization. He is dynamic, enthusiastic, committed to develop the library. He has introduced the new innovative practices in the library. Most of the traditional functions and practices are being replaced by the new ICT related technologies. He made available thousand of E-Resources to the library users. It is fully ventilated and has enough natural light. It is very well equipped library building in all respect. Library Having different sections and an enormous Reading-Hall which accommodates about 250 students. Library has following sections- CIRCULATION SECTION 17

The Vidyasagar software is purchased from Easy and Useful Co. Ltd., Kolhapur. The Library has used barcode system to all records and OPAC and Web-OPAC facility is provided to the readers. The library automation is functioning with five computers and one printer with LAN and internet facility. All the books have the Bar-code stickers. Students Identity Cards are also Bar-coded. There are & computers having LAN in the library. Out of these two are for library users i.e. for the students and teachers to search the book through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) The task of issuing the books, indexing, reports generation, statistics and section wise computerized library functions and services are become faster and easier due to computerization Library Services: The teachers, research scholars, students and the staff are the main users of the library. The majority of the under-graduate and post-graduate students depends on the services of the library. For convenience of the readers, the service of the library is made available from 8 am to 6 pm on all working days. Reading- Hall remains open till 8 pm during examination period. Besides the books in the stacks for lending, the library has special collection of textbooks for issue and reference purpose. Reprographic services are provided to the readers on nominal charges to enable them to copy the required materials. The library provides Internet services to the readers for browsing the regular material. General Services: The general service of the library includes: General administrative works Procurement of information resources to serve the users. Infrastructure development in the tune of the demands of the users Issue and return of the books, circulation of reference and journal materials and other materials. 19

Basic training on the handling of new services as a part of users education programme. Reprographic Serves and other bindery works Stack arrangement and maintenance. Provision of up to date information Saving time in searching desired information; Traditional Services: The following traditional library services have been prevailing in the library till date: Book Exhibition The larger amount of the budget is spent on purchase of books through exhibition. Principal, Professors and students select and recommend the books for purchase. Lecture series has been organized every year along with the books exhibition. Library Orientation Program: Library arranges the Orientation Program twice a week. To acquaint the students about the library rules, collection and services. It helps them to know the library, its information sources, searching tools and facilities thoroughly. Book Bank Scheme: There is a Book Bank Scheme for the needy and deserving students of all classes. A set of text-books is issued to the students for the whole academic year. Students avail this unique library facility and a number of students apply for this scheme every year. Reference and Referral Service: Library provides the long-term and short-term reference service to all its readers. Reference desk deals with all sort of authentic and important reference books, dictionaries, manuals, directories, indexes, annuals. All types of queries are promptly responded through reference desk. Display of New Arrival: Library periodically displays the newly purchased books and journals for the readers. This is to inform the readers about newly published books journals. List of newly added books is displayed every month for students and faculty. Inter-Library Loan: Library exchanging its information sources with the leading libraries in Pune City. 20

Research, academic and university libraries like Library of Mathubai Garware College, Library of Chintamanrao College of commerce Library of IMDR, etc s are sharing its information sources Through web-opac with our library. Study Cubicles for Teachers. For teaching- staff members the arrangement of study cubicles has been made in the Library. A computer with internet is provided. They can browse the INFLIBNET-NLIST and other online journals and full text information sources for their do research. Dissertation, Theses and Reports. Library has preserved valuable collection of M. Phil. and Ph. D. theses since 1985. There are near about 11 M.Phil. Dissertations and about 19 Ph. D. Theses arranged in the library, which is now properly organized and listed in OPAC. Researchers and students can refer to these important information sources. E- Journals & E-Books under INFLIBNET N-List Program Library has subscribed to INFLIBNET N-LIST PROGRAME. There are 6000+ leading national and international e-journals and 300000000 e-books are available full text. Library users are provided the ID s and the PW s to search, brows, refer or to download the articles of their interest. This gives very comprehensive and most recent information of different area of knowledge. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) Every single document, print and non-print is entered in the OPAC. Users can search their title in the OPAC. This Online Public Access Catalogue is an important tool for searching the exact source of information preserved and organized in the library. Various options are provided to search the title i.e. Author, Title, Publisher, Accession Number, Keywords etc. Users find it very convenient and time saving to locate their title through OPAC. Competitive Exam Section There are near about 1008 books related to MPSC, UPSC, NET, SET, CET and other competitive examination acquired and kept in special section for the concerned students and the teachers preparing for the exams. ICT Based Services of the library New innovative practices have been introduced in the delivery of services by the library. Creation of the databases of the books and other material using library application package like Vidyasagar. Automation of different housekeeping operations of the library. Providing OPAC as tool for browsing & searching the library collection in the Lib. Web-OPAC for outreach access. Developing Local Area Network Providing online free access to leading E-Journals and E-books to library readers. Access to the full text of the journals; Newspaper cuttings of the daily news bulletin. INTERNET & E-Resource Centre providing internet connectivity enabling the users access to global information resources; Adopting Barcode System in Circulation and for the I-Cards & B-T Cards of the library members. Joining the INFLIBNET-N-List Program enabling the academic and research community access to more than 6000+ E-Journals and 30000000 E-Books. Helping towards promoting E-Learning as well as E-Literacy among the scholars Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the library. Making library management more systematic to serve the users conductively. E-Learning Services: Library has online resources like e-journals, e-books and online database. Library has provided e-learning facility free of cost to all readers by giving them IDs and PWs. In this facility the user can access e-resources through internet on their mobile and pc at any corner of the World. In this facility total 80 readers has been enrolled. Web-OPAC Facility: This facility is given to the net connected readers on the off the campus. In this facility library has provided OPAC facility through college website and by providing IDs and PWs those who have search through internet. Many readers from departmental libraries and others get used by huge response. Competitive Exam Section There are near about 108 books related to MPSC, UPSC, NET, SET, CET and other competitive examination acquired and kept in special section for the concerned 22

students and the teachers preparing for the exams. Library Membership Bar-coded and laminated Identity Card cum Borrow Cards is issued to the students. Through this card they can borrow the books on their names. Library membership cards are also provided to the students to facilitate the issuing of books. Total of students from junior wing, UG and PG classes enrolled in the library in the current year. Library Website and E-Mail The college has a Website having the library link. A user can check any book sitting at home from any corner of the world by using Web-OPAC facility. www.willigdoncollege.in is the name of the website. The E-Mail address of the library is wdnlibrary@gmail.com. Users can interact with the librarian and library staff through the e-mail facility for their short term and long term information query and library services. Institutional Membership In view to assist the research work and develop the current awareness of the library users, library has taken the institutional membership of the INFLIBNET NLIST organization. They provide the important e-journals, e-books and information about the recent developments in different subject all over the world. 23

IV MEMBERSHIP Bar-coded and laminated Identity Card cum Borrow Cards is issued to the students by the college. Through this card they can borrow the books on their names. Library membership cards are also provided to the students to facilitate the issuing of books. Total of 1627 students from UG and PG classes enrolled in the library in the current year. Library have provided the following library services for user- Regular: In this membership regular students from UG and PG and professional courses can be take a membership of library. Readers from UG and PG have issued one book for a week on their ID cum barrow card. Those students failed to return books in the period time limit has fined over dues by Rs.1/- per day. Additional: Library has furnish an external membership of the readers those are past students/retired employees of our college and who are learning in open and distance mode of learning. Library has issued one book to them for fifteen days. In this facility caution deposit and library service charges are taken from the members. Casual: It is provided to the readers those use the library for small period of time like one day or seven day. In this membership library issued books in the library for reading purpose only. Books cannot be issued to his/her home. It is purely temporary issued system for that day only. For this facility library has take few nominal library service charges from the outside users. 24
