Operating Instructions Before Use Basic Operations Troubleshooting For safe and correct use, be sure to read the Safety Information in Read This First before using the machine.

Introduction This manual contains detailed instructions and notes on the operation and use of this machine. For your safety and benefi t, read this manual carefully before using the machine. Safety Information When using this machine, the following safety precautions should always be followed. Safety During Operation In this manual, the following important symbols are used: WARNING Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if instructions are not followed, could result in death or serious injury. CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if instructions are not followed, may result in minor or moderate injury or damage to property. Safety Precautions to Be Followed This section explains safety precautions that should always be followed when using this machine. Environments where the machine can be used This section explains safety precautions about environments where the machine can be used. WARNING Do not place vases, plant pots, cups, toiletries, medicines, small metal objects, or containers holding water or any other liquids, on or close to this machine. Fire or electric shock could result from spillage or if such objects or substances fall inside this machine. Keep the machine away from humidity and dust. Otherwise a fire or an electric shock might occur. Do not place the machine on an unstable or tilted surface. If it topples over, an injury might occur. Handling power cords and power cord plugs This section explains safety precautions about handling power cords and power cord plugs. WARNING It is dangerous to handle the power cord plug with wet hands. Doing so could result in electric shock. Do not use power cords that are damaged, broken, or modifi ed. Also, do not use power cords that have been trapped under heavy objects, pulled hard, or bent severely. Doing so could result in fi re or electric shock. ii

After turning off the power, be sure to disconnect the power cord plug from the wall outlet. Then contact your service representative and report the problem. Do not use the machine. Setting a Tape Roll The LED on the tape dispenser unit fl ashes when the unit runs out of the tape. REFERENCE TAPE DISPENSER EMPTY OPEN TAPE DISPENSER COVER is displayed on digital duplicator LCD. 1 Before Use Replacing the Tape Roll Open the cover of the tape dispenser unit. Remove the tape core while pressing down the stopper. Lift the lever until it clicks. Continue Page 3

Setting a Tape Roll Set the tape roll. Make sure that the tape core is surely locked at the stopper. IMPORTANT If the tape core is not locked correctly, the tape is not fed correctly. Set the end of the tape as shown in the fi gure. Pull out the end of the tape for about 3 cm from the blade. Blade WARNING The blade to cut the tape is uncovered. Do not touch or keep your hands or fi ngers away from it. 3cm IMPORTANT When setting the tape, make sure that there is no slack in the tape. When the tape is slack, the tape dispenser may fail to eject the strip properly. Return the lever. 4

Setting a Tape Roll Close the cover. When the cover is closed, the unit cuts the tape. WARNING Do not put your hands or fi ngers in the blade section. Doing so may cause injury. 11 REFERENCE If the tape roll is replaced with a new one before it runs out, the tape is not cut when the cover is closed. Before Use 5

Chapter 2 Basic Operations This chapter describes how to set Tape Dispenser and basic operations such as basic printing. 2 Basic Operations Setting Tape Dispenser... 8 Basic Printing... 9

Setting Tape Dispenser Turn on the power. Touch PROPERTY. Touch PERIPHER. Touch TAPE DISPENSER. ON : A tape strip is inserted between the sheets after each set of prints. OFF : No tape strip is inserted. Touch ON. TAPE DISPENSER is set. Touch END. 8

Basic Printing Turn on the power. Load papers. (See the Operating Instructions.) Set the print tray. (See the Operating Instructions.) Load the document. (See the Operating Instructions.) 2 Set the tape dispenser position according to the paper size. 1. Paper size: A3, B4, A4R, B5R, LD Set the position to the B4/A3 11. Basic Operations 2. Paper size: A4, A5, B5, LT, LG Set the position to the B5/A4 8.5. Make sure that the main screen appears on the LCD panel. Continue Page 9

Basic Printing Set functions. (See the Operating Instructions.) Touch the part displaying number of prints. Enter the number of prints using the NUMERIC keys. Press the X = key to set number of sets. Enter the number of sets using the NUMERIC keys. Press the X = key to set number of sets. Repeat the above steps 9 and 10. REFERENCE Up to 90 sets can be entered. 10

Basic Printing Touch the OK. 22 Setting number of prints and sets displays the lastentered number of sets and number of prints. Basic Operations Press the MASTER MAKING or the PRINT key. Printing starts from the last-entered set. IMPORTANT The MASTER MAKING key is not available until all the prints entered are completed. When you want to stop a print run, press the STOP key and then press the CLEAR key. Batch print setting and sequential batch print setting can be switched on the entering screen for the number of prints/sets. If you make a mistake, touch the mistaken value and reenter correct value. You can store/retrieve the setting with Program function. (See the Operating Instructions.) REFERENCE About tape: A tape strip is inserted between sheets when printing of specifi ed sheets is completed and printing of each set is completed. The strip length is the same on standard setting. If you want to change the length, please call your service representative. 11

Error Messages The touch panel LCD displays messages, cause and solution. When a message appears, follow the instructions on the touch panel LCD. Error messages are displayed in one of two ways, either by text or by number. Message TAPE DISPENSER EMPTY OPEN TAPE DISPENSER COVER SET A NEW TAPE ROLL AND CLOSE TAPE DISPENSER COVER CLOSE TAPE DISPENSER COVER Status/Solution Status : There is no tape roll or tape is run out. Solution : Open the tape dispenser cover. Status : There is no tape roll or tape is run out. Solution : Set a new tape roll and close the tape dispenser cover. Status : The tape dispenser cover is open. Solution : Close the cover. 14
