Feelings & Fears Kids Activities Thousands of teachers worldwide have learned how fun and helpful it can be to have Happy Kids Songs in their classrooms. These full-production songs are both highly entertaining and age appropriate adult quality music, but with words and themes that tap into the most common issues confronting young kids. The variety of adult and child soloists, children s chorus, and wide range of instruments and styles of music easily hold children s attention, and adults too. I have your materials available for my team consulting with schools. There is nothing better as far as I am concerned. Thanks, and keep up the marvelous, inspiring work!!! --Maurice Elias, Ph.D. & Author of Educator s Guide to Emotional Intelligence and Academic Achievement Hundreds of studies have shown the beneficial effects of teaching social and emotional skills, even on academic performance. Music has been shown to be an effective, almost magical medium for teaching these skills--a fun way to make the medicine go down. Winner of a Teacher s Choice and numerous other awards, we are in an effort to comply with and enhance the Common Core Standards. Research on these songs and activities has shown: Children make significant improvements in behaviors such as being helpful, staying on task, and understanding and using the Golden Rule. They learn new skills to better approach their peers and gain more effective tools for dealing with teasing and bullying. Kids are better able to resolve conflicts with others by learning to talk things out. Lessons about feelings give kids the words to use when sad, mad or frustrated. As kids develop a more positive attitude and self-confidence, they also are far more likely to encourage others to do their best. And as far as academics are concerned, happy kids learn better! Most of us still remember the words to songs from our childhood. Don t you still sing the ABC song in your head when you re trying to remember alphabetical order? This is the magic of music. It lights up over a dozen areas in the brain, reinforcing concepts across multiple intelligences. There may be no more powerful method of learning than through music, and no more important lessons for children than those that focus on character and social and emotional skills. The following are lyrics and activity pages to help reinforce the key concepts in each song. Feel free to print them out, make copies, and share with others. If you like this, you should check out: Happy Kids Songs Workbook: Hands-on Activities to Build Social, Emotional and Character Skills This 125-page activity book includes the kids lyrics and coloring pages from all 8 of the KidsEPs albums plus adds more than a hundred lessons and activities for parents and teachers to share with kids. Big Kids Know How to Cry Once there was a little boy Who fell and skinned his knee, He wouldn t shed a single tear But took it out on me. First he got so angry Over every little thing, But then he remembered As we began to sing... Chorus: Big kids know how to cry Big kids aren t afraid, Big kids know how to cry Then feel okay. Then there was a little girl Who lost her favorite toy, Then she couldn t find her feelings And just like the little boy First she lost her temper Over every little thing, Until she remembered As we began to sing... Chorus twice Big kids know how to cry, Big kids aren t afraid Big kids know how to cry Then feel okay Then they feel okay, Then they feel okay, Then they feel okay.

Finish each sentence to tell how you feel in that situation. Then draw the face above it to show how you feel. Today I feel. I feel mad when. One time I was scared when. One thing that helps me feel better when I m sad is. One thing that makes me happy is. I hurt my friend s feelings, and I felt. Big Kids Know How to Cry

That s What a Dad Would Do If I could change the world a bit Then you and I and every kid Over the world Could say what a dad would do... He d lift me up so I could see He d give me hugs and never leave Oh, what a world If that s what a dad would do. And when it s time for bed Every father will have read A million books or more to his kid. And the moon ll never rise Until every girl and guy s Been forgiven for whatever they did. If every father everywhere Could really bother, really care Oh, what a world We d be coming to If that s what a dad would do. If that s what a dad would do.

Write on the line below, how you wish that your family might be different? Then color the picture. That s What a Dad Would Do

Go Away Bad Thoughts Well, just the other morn, I wished I wasn t born because of bad thoughts. I was lying in my bed, and what my brother said gave me bad thoughts, Because I just woke up, when in he walks Saying he got the toy from the cereal box. Everything was fine, until I messed up my mind with some bad thoughts, Bad thoughts. So I walked outside to see if I could hide from my bad thoughts. Then everything I tried, including when I cried, left me bad thoughts. Because all I was a-thinkin was poor, poor me. Everything s bad till there s more for me. He got all the luck, and here I am stuck with my bad thoughts. Bad thoughts. No need to get riled up instead of having fun, And no need to dial up 9-1-1. If you want to get those thoughts to end, Yell out twice, then yell it again... Chorus: Go away, bad thoughts. Go away, bad thoughts. Go away, bad thoughts, go away. So if you find a time when you re Losing your mind cause of bad thoughts, If you re down on yourself, Put em on the shelf those bad thoughts. If you tried to treat them like feelings, But expressing them won t help, Just take them by the collar and give Another holler, at your bad thoughts, And yell... Way to go! I m in charge! Chorus Go away bad thoughts, get out of my head. I want to have a good day instead. So scram, get out, be gone, vamoose. I m taking over, and I m cooking your goose! I can do it! Chorus

Finish the sentence in each box and draw a picture to show what you wrote. Today I want to feel I like that I am I won t let I can be Go Away Bad Thoughts

Let Em Out Just like a sneeze has got a reason to achoo, Feelings want a way to come out. Just find the words to say what ll make em go away; Let em out, let em out, let em out. Lonely Sometimes I m lonely; sometimes I m sad; Sometimes my feelings get hurt. The hardest time for me is when I m acting bad, And then I lose my dessert. Chorus: Just like a sneeze has got a reason to achoo, Feelings want a way to come out. Just find the words to say what ll make em go away; Let em out, let em out, let em out, let em out. My little sister Susan s the best, But she waits til I m walkin to school. Then she plays in my room and leaves it a mess, Then I ll be losin my cool. Chorus: Just like giggles make you wiggle about, or excitement makes you shiver and shout, Like a baby about to be born, or a movie theater poppin some corn, Like a puppy wants to go for a walk, You got some good news and you gotta talk, Like a seed reachin up for the sky, a baby bird that s itchin to fly, Like rain comin down from the clouds, or a burp that s gotta burp its way out, Let em out, let em out, let em out, let em out. Chorus 2 times sad

Fill in the blanks with words that tell how you are feeling. Then draw a face in the circle to show that feeling. Today I am feeling Something that makes me happy is Something that makes me sad is When I am lonely, I like to When I am happy, I like to I get angry when Let Em Out

Tell Someone At night when I m in bed These thoughts in my head Make me afraid of the dark. There s a shadow on the wall Of my goldfish ten feet tall And I m sure it s gonna eat me like a shark. So how can I make these fears go away? What ll it take, and what can I say? Chorus: You can tell someone, Say exactly how you feel. It ll help you figure out What is fantasy or real. And never let your feelings get The best of you. Just give a shout, and get em out, Then tell them who s who. When I m cozy and warm And all at once there s a storm The thunder gives me such a fright. First I see a flash And then I hear the thunder crash And everything, including me, turns white. So how can I make these fears go away? What ll it take, and what can I say? Chorus twice I m Samantha, and you re just some silly thoughts. I m Nicholas, and you re nobody. I m Gloria, and you re gone. I m Nacho, Y eres nada! You re nothing. I m Tony, and you re toast. I m Reilly, and you re ridiculous. I m Aaron, and you re out of here. I m Hallie, and you re history. I m David, and your day is done. And never let your feelings get The best of you, Just give a shout, and get em out, Then tell them who s who. 10
