Your overall goal is to select a piece you d like to play with each ensemble. 1. Your first assignment is to go on several of these websites and shop for music. You will listen to a minimum of 10 pieces appropriate for Wind Symphony and a minimum of 10 pieces appropriate for Concert Band (everyone will do BOTH- a total of 20 pieces). You will record the information for every piece you listen to, on the attached listening sheets. Be sure to provide all details requested. You may NOT use any of the pieces you used for previous year s summer assignments! 2. Your second assignment is to narrow it down from 10, and choose the ONE piece you d like to play with each group. In other words, you will select two pieces one for Wind Symphony, and one for Concert Band. 3. Once you ve selected the two pieces, you will write a persuasive essay to convince Mr. Itkor and Mr. Liggins as to why the pieces you ve selected should be performed by the ensembles. Be sure to include educational value, as well as entertainment value for the audience. This essay should be on a separate piece of paper and submitted with the rest of this packet ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. From these essays, we will select a piece for each group to perform. The person or people that recommend it will be mentioned in the program for the concert on which it is played.
