The Arrangement Christmastide Rejoice! catures some o the most beloved sounds heard during the winter season. It oens with the sounding o a church bell and a edal E sustained by the basses. The violas and cellos then lay the oening hrase o O Come Emmanuel, ollowed by another strike o the bell. The melody is assed among the sections or the next three hrases. When the word rejoice would be sung, the uer strings owerully lay in three-art harmony. This leads to the return o the cello and bass with the recognizable rhythmic motto rom Handel s Hallelujah. Students will enjoy laying this rhythm on their instruments. Violins lay on the E string and the A major chords should give the ensemble a rich, resonant sound. Ater this, the amous descending trumet scale brings the key to a D tonality or the joyous tune, Sing We Now O Christmas. Beginning with a strong izzicato introduction, the tune is stated irst by violins and then by the low strings. It aears then as a round, building some harmonic tension. The inal measures recall the Hallelujah rhythm once again and bring the iece to a most joyous conclusion.
