THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN MARIETTA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER S PRODUCTION OF... Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Dear Potential Cast Member, We are pleased to announce auditions for MPAC s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! Please read these pages very carefully so that you have all of the information regarding auditions, rehearsals and the show. There are important audition tips here on this page, so read and take note before your audition! You have to be 7-8 years or older, enrolled, an alumni, or is working for MCS district to participate! You must be enrolled at the time of auditions to be considered. This is our 3 rd annual district wide musical and we are looking for the best! This is the first time we go into full online auditions and want it to be a very smooth, fast and easy experience for you. Please pay attention to the steps on how to submit your required videos so you can have the tools you need to knock these auditions out of the park! Joseph is an extremely energy-driven show; featuring a number of dances and songs we all know and love. Don t be afraid to throw all your energy into your pre-recorded video, you can t go too far! Many voices and movements are necessary for the creative team to make casting and callback decisions, so make sure you commit to everything you do during your audition! During your audition, please do not dress up like a character. If you do, you re telling the creative team who you think you should be. Dress to help you feel the part you re auditioning for, wear shoes similar to a character so your posture is similar, wear a dress if the character wears a dress, dress IN THE STYLE of a character or the show, but by wearing a costume, you re removing the artistic team s creativity of seeing you in other roles you may not have seen for yourself. When you re singing, whether it be for your initial audition or for callbacks, the most important thing to keep in mind is that acting and intentions are everything. There is a reason you don t see pop stars winning Tony Awards on Broadway, it s not about how you sound, it s about why you re singing, what you re singing for

and what you re trying to accomplish through the music. This entire show is nothing but singing and can only be believable because of the actor s heightened emotion. Whether it be good or bad, the actor must reach a point where speaking dialogue is no longer an option, the only thing they can do is sing. Keep that in mind when you re preparing for auditions or callbacks. This is one of the most common mistakes in theatre, even with professional actors at the highest levels! Your audition is a pre-recorded video; that means that you have control of all your surroundings and how a video looks and sounds. We get the chance to see you at your absolute best. Makes sure that it is! Take advantage that you can record this audition as many times as possible. Just be sure that your videos are to your absolute liking as you can only submit once! In an effort to increase participation and limit potential conflicts, we are reducing the amount of rehearsal days for this production. Later in this packet you ll find a calendar detailing rehearsal times; this show s performance dates are August 19 th -27 th on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays only with a one song performance on August 1st. Detailed rehearsal schedules are further in the packet. Majority of rehearsals take place in July during summer at the Marietta High School and at Ms. Motschman s (Vocal Director s) house so please make sure you can commit to the rehearsal dates. If cast you will be given the specific address to Ms. Motschman s house but I realize you may want to know how far away it is to plan accordingly. The location is on Park Creek Court in Marietta GA. 30064. It is very close to the high school. This rehearsal process is only 6 weeks longs! When one cast member is missing from rehearsal it affects the others in the show, the productivity of rehearsals and ultimately, the final product! Conflicts are a huge part when considering roles for cast members. So please be vigilant in planning for rehearsals. Make sure you take note of everything in this packet, as it will help to answer any questions you may have. I am so excited to be given the opportunity to help bring this amazing show to life here at Blue Devil Nation! Our entire production team is committed to making it an experience that volunteers and audiences won t soon forget! Jacob Louis Garcia Jacob Garcia MHS Theatre Dept.- Artistic Director

The Audition Process What you need: 1. Read this packet in full! 2. Drop box Link: Continue below and finishing reading this packet before going to this link! https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vivz3a3bqijen39/aadniayhjt-dwqwulwfyprsna?dl=0 1. Gather your materials! : The drop box link has all that you need for your rehearsal purposes in preparation of your recording! Simply follow these steps: 1. Click on the Link 2. Click the Audition Info Folder 3. There are 3 audition categories (3 rd -5 th grade; 6 th -Adult Female; 6 th - Adult Male) select the folder you fall under. 4. Read The Letter in your specific folder FIRST. 5. You will then have the option to select Song or Dance Folders. You choose the one you desire to start downloading. Below is a description of all available info. In the folders and what is required on the actual video you record: Singing Folder: On this folder you will find the mp3 karaoke audition cut that you must download. You will not be choosing your own songs. You must sing the exact audition cut song given to you in these folders. The audition cut is only about a minute long but I have also given you a video demo on how the song sounds like. These have the full song on there to better understand what they are singing about. Use these to help prepare you for your song audition. These video demos have a MAC & PC File so choose which one you desire. 3 rd -5 th grade auditions only need to sing 1 song in their video submission. The 6 th -Adult auditions need to sing both songs found on your folders. So on your video that you record yourself when you are ready: 3 rd -5 th grade audition= 1 singing video submission with 1 song on it. The 6 th - Adult audition= 1 singing video submission with 2 songs on it.

Dancing Folder: On this folder you will find the mp3 audition dance cut that you must download. This is the song you will be dancing to. You will then find an instructional choreography guide video from our very own choreographer Arianna. Watch this video as many times as you desire. Then when you are ready to record yourself you can dance to the audition dance cut song and dance as close as possible as Arianna showed you. This is a separate video submission from the singing video submission that you will need when you are ready to register and submit online. 6. Underneath the 3-audition category folders- you will find a London cast recording folder & the full sheet music folder. These are more tools to help you with how the song sounds and with the lyrics to your songs. 3-5 th grade- your song video demos have the words in a fun follow the words type of style. 6 th -Adult your video demos do not. I did this for a reason. You have all the tools. Show us you know how to put it all together yourself. 2. Ready to record! : Alright! You have all your materials; you have rehearsed your songs and are memorized! You have rehearsed the choreography over and over and you know all the dance steps without any help!! You are ready to Audition! Follow these steps to make the best audition video! 1. Watch the How to Audition Video found in the Audition Info Folder of the dropbox link. 2. Everything he says are great tips. One thing you need to add is that your dance video audition needs to show the full body. Your Singing Audition Video can be what he does. You can record on any smart phone, laptop, desktop or video recording so long as it saves as ONLY THESE 2 digital files (.avi, or.mp4) YOU MUST UPLOAD FROM A DESKTOP AND CHOOSE FILES. DO NOT DRAG AND DROP. DO NOT USE INTERNET EXPLORER. 3. Remember for our auditions you need 2 audition videos. 1 for singing (2 songs for 6 th -Adult & 1 song for 3 rd 5th) and 1 for dancing. The file name must be your last name, first name- Joseph Audition MPAC Song or Dance. (Example- Garcia, Jacob- Joseph Audition MPAC Song) (Ex.- Garcia,
