For Armored Cables Only 4.1 Install grounding kit onto tab of cable sheath as shown. 3M Internal Ground Kit 6 AWG 3M Internal Ground Kit 14 AWG 4.2 Wrap sheath and ground terminal with tape to protect fibers from sharp edges. Grounding kits must be purchased separately: ECAM-GND-6-AWG...80-6113-1702-7 ECAM-GND-14-AWG...80-6113-1704-3 5.0 Cable Clamp Selection 5.1 Place cable clamp gauge on cable as shown. 5
5.2 As shown wrap cable gauge around cable diameter. Note: If 2 different cable diameters are used repeat this process for each cable. 5.3 Read between the arrows to determine which of the cable clamp adaptors are needed 5.4 Assemble cable clamp adaptors by matching the tabs and holes in mating adaptors and press together to form the set specified by the cable gauge. 5.5 Now take the 4 clamp adaptors and press it in to cable clamp halves as shown.
5.6 Loosen clamp screws on 3M 27mm ECAM Double Cable Assembly. Pull clamps outward and lightly retighten screw to hold clamps in place. 5.7 Remove screws to separate the top and bottom halves of the 27mm ECAM double cable assembly using a 5/16" (8mm) nut driver or flathead screwdriver. 5.8 Place cable clamp with the threaded nuts into ECAM double cable assembly bottom half with CSM bracket as shown. 6.0 Cable Seal Installation 6.1 First clean thoroughly the cable sheath using alcohol wipe. Make sure cable sheath is free of any grease or dirt. 6.2 Scuff the first 3" of each cable sheath using supplied sheath scuff. Ensure cable is completely scuffed around the perimeter of the cable. Hint: Note: Scuffing is easier if you tear the sheath scuff in half along the length of the strip. Carefully follow health, safety and environmental instructions as given on Material Safety Data Sheet. 7
Mastic Collar 6.3 Mark the cable sheath ¾ (20mm) from the opening and then using mastic gage mark the boundaries for applying the mastic..75 (20mm) 6.4 Peel the mastic rope from the liner and place into the groove in the double 3M ECAM half. Route as shown make sure at least ¼ (6mm) of the mastic rope extends out both ends as shown..25 (5mm) Min 6.5 Open the mastic tape and slowly stretch the end of the tape until the width of the tape matches the width specified on the gauge. Note: Make sure hands and cable surface are free of dust, dirt, silicone lubricant or moisture. 6.6 Cut across the width of the mastic tape at a 45 degree angle while at the same time holding the snips at a 45 degree angle. 8
6.7 Make a second cut forming a point. 6.8 Install the mastic tape on the scuffed cable between marks on the cable. Taper the start by firmly mashing the mastic end. 6.9 Wrap the first layer and firmly press it into the cable and the start mastic. Make certain no gaps or voids exist. 6.10 Continue wrapping cable stretching the mastic tape to reduce the width. Use gauge to check the width of the tape. Do not exceed max width. 9
6.11 Continue to build up the mastic tape collar around the cable sheath until it fills the 27mm side of the mastic collar gauge s maximum diameter. Do not overbuild diameter. 6.12 Cut the mastic tape. 6.13 Taper the end by stretching and press into the mastic collar. 6.14 Repeat for second cable. Armored Cables Note 6.15 Install armored cables into double cable half with ground wires facing up. 10
6.16 Place both cables into the bottom half of the 3M 27mm ECAM Double Cable Assembly with CSM bracket. Position mastic collar next to the cable clamp as shown. Press mastic collars down. 6.17 Keep mastic to the inside of these plastic tabs. Make certain the rope seal remains in the correct location. 6.18 Install upper cable clamp half. Start screws and washers by hand to reduce the chance of cross threading. Tighten clamp screws using torque wrench to 30 in.-lbs. ± 5 in.-lbs. 6.19 Install top half of the ECAM double cable. Start all screws by hand. If screws do not reach the nuts it may be necessary to squeeze the halves together by hand. Caution Do not pinch fiber between halves. 11
6.20 Evenly tighten screws to 30 in.-lbs. ± 5 in.-lbs. 6.21 Carefully cut excess mastic rope protruding out using knife/scissor. Do not pull tape by hand to remove excess tape from the part. 6.22 Carefully trim excess mastic rope using snips or knife. Trim ends of mastic rope but DO NOT cut flush or pull mastic rope out. Leave at least 1/8" (3.175mm) protruding. 6.23 Press down the mastic rope ends to form a sealing area as shown. 12
7.0 Cable Strength Member Installation 7.1 Remove vinyl caps and cable strength member (CSM) clamps from the CSM bracket. Position CSM rod next to bracket and trim to fit as shown. 7.1a Smaller single CSM rods can be reinforced by sliding brass CSM support tube over the rod. Cut tube as needed to fit clamp. 7.1b Reinstall CSM clamps as shown and tighten to 25 in.-lbs. ± 5 in.-lbs. 7.1c Cut a 1/2" (13mm) long slit in each cap. Then install protective cap over CSM clamp. Position slit as shown while installing cap. Slit 13
7.1d Color coded tie wraps can be install at this time to attach caps and can also be used to identify feeder or distribution cables. Note: Central tube cable can be secured in the same manner. 8.0 3M 27mm ECAM Double Cable Entry Port Installation 8.1 Lightly lubricate oval gasket using the supplied silicone lubricant before installing the gasket into the groove in the base of the 3M Fiber Dome. Note: Follow health, safety and environmental information. Refer to product label or Material Safety Data sheet for Silicone Lubricant. 8.2 Feed cable through oval port. Caution Do not kink fiber. Handling groups of buffer tube reduces chances of kinking. 8.3 Position 3M Double ECAM Assembly 27mm with CSM bracket facing down. 14
8.4 Loosen clamps and position over 3M 27mm ECAM Double Cable Assembly as shown. Tighten screw to 30 in.-lbs. ± 5 in.-lbs. 9.0 Accessories UPC Number 3M I.D.
