The impact of low salary (22K) on college graduates CDI103022 Time after time, not only does the technology advance, but many companies become stricter with the quality of employees. What s worse, the computer-based automatic manufacturing process can replace manpower almost totally. This advantage not only makes it difficult to find a job, but also leads to the high unemployment rate. Without a doubt, unemployment is one of the disastrous social problems nowadays. In order to find solutions to this big trouble, government must take urgent actions without delay, 22K, one of the merciful policies maybe. Government is in cooperation with some companies, they provide jobs for teenagers, especially for college graduates. They also pay them NT$22,000 per month. In spite of the fact that many people criticize that this policy doesn t work out at all, not only because many companies think that the quality of those employees doesn t meet their expectations, but also because many college students complain that this salary is too low to make ends meet. In my opinion, if I were a college graduate, finally accomplishing the academic degree, having the opportunity to participate in this policy. Maybe the job I got might be not my favorite, or it could be more difficult than I could imagine. Nevertheless, I would rather give it a shot than sit back and wait for another choice comes. During that period, it might be a great chance for me to think about what I really want to be in the future, and I will definitely obtain some special and memorable experiences from it. Where there is a will, there is a way. We should care about the attitude toward work, not just how much the job will pay us. Just like Steve Jobs once said Quality is more important than quantity. As long as we pay attention to the real meaning of the job, then we will realize that what counts is the value of our lives rather than the given salary itself. Mr. Chou: Someone Who Made a Difference BDI104003 Mr. Chou is the best teacher I have ever met. He was my homeroom teacher for the fifth and sixth grades. He was a terrific educator with creativity and showed marked enthusiasm for his students. He always came up some brilliant activities to inspire his students to reach their full potential. For developing our reading habit, he founded a class library program which was a pioneering work at that time. He also encouraged us to save our pocket money and donated the money to buy books every weekend. Therefore, we were so excited about the new books and eager to read them. For me, the most important thing is that he cared about me not only at school even after I finished elementary school. Until now, I can still remember once he came to visit me and brought several useful reference books that helped me improve my learning performance and get a higher score in junior high school. In the summer of 1981, learning that I passed the teacher training school preliminary exam, Mr. Chou offered me free piano and music lessons, trying to help me pass the secondary exam. Five years later, I graduated from college and became an elementary school teacher. Now, I also conduct a children s choir. I am so grateful for his kindness because all what he has done for me really made a difference in my life.

My Last College Year 101421023 As time goes by, my college life is close to the end, and I am already a senior now. Unlike the freshman, I become earnest and calm. I start to think of my future instead of just fool around and enjoy playing with my friends. Because I am a senior, I found I could not just spend time entertaining or taking a lot of classes blindly. I should have a clear goal and create my own turning point in life. Owing to the future competitive workplace market, I want to build my proficiency in English. Therefore, I still make every effort to study English and also deepen my translating skills. After taking so many English classes, such as literature, business English, translating, marketing English and so on, I am interested in translating most. When I translate English to Chinese or translate English to Chinese, I could obtain much achievement. In order to become a successful writer and translator, I want to seize every chance, so that I take various of writing competition and contribute writing for publication On the other hand, unlike freshman, sophomore or junior, we do not meet our classmates often and even go out with friends in free time. Because of different classes and time arrangement, we do not have many common classes together, and each of us have individual goal. Maybe some friends want to do part-time job, some want to go to cram school to prepare National Examination, and others want to focus on study or playing, etc. Although we do not get along with each other as before, we still take care of each other and encourage each other. Due to my friends encouragement and support, I can have courage and willing to keep my goal without hesitation. In my last year in college, I will keep studying and enhancing my translating ability, hence I could create my own value. Also, I will cherish the time I study and have my friends accompany. It will be much better if I can make good use of time and have a grateful heart.

Literary Analysis Heart of Darkness Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely said by John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton. This phrase means that one who has total authority is very likely to abuse their position. We can see this phrase proven in the Heart of Darkness, which was written by Joseph Conrad. Joseph Conrad was a Polish author who wrote in English after settling in England. He was regarded as one of the greatest novelists and his writing style was an example of realism. His famous novel is the Heart of Darkness. In my opinion, Joseph Conrad illustrates the theme of colonialism, choice of nightmare, and the Id in this novel. The first point that this essay would like to discuss is colonialism. Marlow's story takes place in the Congo, the most notorious European colony in Africa. We can see lots of its monstrous wastefulness and casual cruelty of the colonial agents toward the African natives. It was very terrible. There is strong aspect of colonialism and we can see how the Heart of Darkness reveals the Europeans thoughts towards colonialism. Colonizing Africa is not only wealth to Europe, but it also civilizes and educates the "savage" African natives. It is really a strange thought. Robing other countries and harming local people s lives does not mean they save them. Therefore, in my opinion, the European colonizers used the high ideals of colonization as a cover to allow them to viciously rob whatever wealth resource they could take from Africa. This is typical colonialism. The second point that this essay would like to discuss is the choice of nightmare. When Marlow speaks of his choice of nightmares, the alternatives of which he speaks are social injustices and cruelty on the one hand, and the realization that one s soul is empty and infinitely capable of depravity on the other hand. This is my first time hearing the phrase, choice of nightmare. Europeans think they can use black people to make money for them. In addition, they can have ideals and morals to help the local people. The Id definition in Psychology. Retrieved from: http://psychology.about.com/od/iindex/g/def_id. CX101105 Actually, both points of view are wrong, all men in the world are equal. How can Europeans think African people are lower than them and view African people as things? However, the truth is that these things happened. If anyone must participate in colonialism, they must face the dilemma. In my opinion, I think with morals and ideals to help African people is better than use them to make money because European people developed faster than Africa. They can use their education and technology to make Africa to become more developed. Compared with the view that African people are things, having moral heart about Africa is a better choice for those who have to joined in colonialism. Finally, this essay would like to discuss the Id. According to abouteducation, the Id means that the personality component made up of unconscious psychic energy that works to satisfy basic urges, needs, and desires. Marlow describes that being in the Congo is traveling back to the earliest beginnings of the world. I think these words exhibit Marlow s feeling about his abandonment of society and how the id is slowly taking over and moving the superego out of the way. Without the presence of society, there is no need for a superego, only the primal urges of the Id, because the Id is the trueness of us. Marlow went to the Congo, an undeveloped place, and he does not care about the social rules. Therefore, I think Marlow s Id is gradually replacing his superego at that time. To sum up, we can see how colonialism, choice of nightmare, and the Id are depicted in the Heart of Darkness. This novel was viewed as a great novel at that time, because the novel mentioned lots of controversial issues at that time such as how Europeans treated African people. The novel makes people realize how terrible colonialism was; moreover it alerts people not to make the same mistake. No wonder the Heart of Darkness is still very popular now.
