The Czech Radio announces 49th year of the International Radio Competition for Young Musicians Concertino Praga 2015 International Radio Competition for Young Musicians held under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union (www.ebu.ch) Member of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (www.emcy.org) Article 1 The competition is open to chamber ensembles in the following categories: DUO - TRIO - QUARTET QUINTET All instruments are allowed. However, the ensemble shall have no more than one acoustic keyboard instrument. Article 3 The Competition shall be open to musicians aged up to 18 in 2015, i.e. born on January 1, 1997 inclusive or younger it concerns one of the candidates. Others candidates from the ensemble shall be aged up to 17 in 2015, i.e. born on January 1, 1998 (thereinafter "Candidate"). Article 4 In the competition a jury assesses the Candidates' artistic performances recorded on Compact Disc (thereinafter "Recording"). The Recording shall be made in the period between January 1, 2014 and December 13, 2014, in a studio or during a public performance as a live recording without any subsequent editing. They shall be free of all EBU broadcasting and mechanical rights (IFPI). As a rule, the Recording is made by the relevant broadcasting Organisation (see Art. 6) which guarantees its professional quality. This Organisation for Candidates from the Czech Republic is the Czech Radio. Article 5 Candidates from the Czech Republic who shall participate in the International Radio Competition for Young Musicians Concertino Praga shall be selected in the Nomination Radio Competition of the Czech Republic Concertino Praga (thereinafter Nomination Competition ). The participants of the Nomination Competition will be invited by the Czech Radio to make free of charge competition Recordings in October and November 2014. Conditions of making the Nomination Competition Recording for Concertino Praga are available on the competition official website. On request, they can be mailed to candidates by a competition secretariat. Article 6 Candidates may enter the competition through members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), International Music Council (IMC) or European Music Council (EMC) (thereinafter "Organization"). For contacts and organizations, please refer to Art. 23 of these regulations. Exceptionally, the Candidate may be registered in the competition by a public, governmental or private radio organisation or another similar one. In such cases, however, it is necessary to contact and inform the Organizer at least 14 days before the registration deadline. Article 7 Registration shall be made exclusively by means of an application form which can be also downloaded from the web pages of the competition. This form shall be sent to the Organizer by post, fax or e-mail. The person who shall register the Candidate (thereinafter "Organization") shall remain the Organizer's contact person throughout the entire duration of the competition. The Organisations shall inform its Candidates of the present regulations. The deadline for registration of Candidates is on November 31 th, 2014. The Organizer shall acknowledge receipt of the application within 10 days.
Along with the application form the CV of range of 10-15 lines and two printing photos (with the name of the photographer) is required. Candidates also give permission to use those materials for promotional purposes of the Competition. Article 8 There is a limit of five Candidates who the Organization can register to participate in the competition irrespective of the number of instrument categories. In case of participation of chamber assembles we understand the expression Candidate one assemble. In the instance of an outstanding level of artistic achievement of the Candidates, it is possible to expand this quota accordingly. Article 9 The Organization shall send the Recordings to the Organizer (by express or registered mail) exclusively on CD media. An accompanying letter along with required documentation must be enclosed to the Recording. The accompanying letter can be found on the competition web pages. Upon request the Organizer can send it to the Organization by mail. The deadline for sending Recordings is December 13, 2014. The Organizer shall acknowledge their receipt within 10 days. Article 10 The competition Recording shall contain an optional programme by which we understand performance of one or more compositions (or their parts) of own Candidate s choice in the total length of minimum 15 minutes and maximum 20 minutes. Recordings with footage shorter than 15 minutes may be excluded of the competition. Listening of recordings longer than 20 minutes may be made shorter by a jury. As regards competition repertoire, we recommend a variety of period styles; at least one of the compositions (or parts) should be part of standard concert repertoire. In case of original baroque or classicist compositions, the piano score can be replaced by cembalo one. Recordings of contemporary compositions shall be accompanied by a notation. Article 11 The Recordings shall be reviewed by an international jury in the first quarter of the year 2015. The Recordings of the Nomination Radio Competition of the Czech Republic Concertino Praga (only for Candidates from the Czech Republic) shall be reviewed by a Czech jury in the time period before the international jury session. The international jury shall be made up of seven members. Two jury members are designated each year by the EBU Music Programme Group. The five remaining jury members shall be designated by the Organizer. As a rule, the Czech jury has two members; other countries are usually represented by one jury member. The Organizer shall make an effort to obtain a diversified make-up of the jury with musicians,
soloists, conductors, professors or other representatives of the music world (critics, radio producers, agents etc.). A chairman of the jury shall be named by the Organizer. Organizations including the Czech Radio, who have registered a Candidate to take part in the competition, are not allowed to have representatives in the international jury. The members of the jury shall not have any information about the Candidates at their disposal. Article 12 The jury may award the first prize and the second prize in each category. Winners of these prizes shall be awarded the title "Laureate of the Concertino Praga ". The jury may award also an "Honorable Mention". The jury does not have to award all the prices. An overall winner of the competition, awarded by the Helena Karásková Prize, is the most successful Candidate selected by the jury among those awarded first prizes in all categories. No prizes shall be awarded ex aequo by the jury. For this year s competition Czech Radio announces special prize for performance of composition of Bohuslav Martinů. It is not obligatory part of the programme, but if such a composition will be within the repertoire, the ensemble may be awarded this prize. Article 13 The vote shall be secret, anonymous and by ballot. A representative of the EBU (a neutral observer outside the jury) has the right to ensure that proper procedure is respected and to verify the validity of the ballots cast. The jury session is closed to the public except for entrusted employees of the Czech Radio. Decisions of the jury are final. A points system the jury shall abide by was updated and approved by EBU and EMCY in February 2013 and is available on the competition website. All deliberations of the international jury shall take place in the English language. Article 14 The Organizer shall inform the Organizations about the results of the competition within ten days of the end of the jury session. The results will be also released at the press conference organised by the Czech Radio and also published on the competition official website. Article 15 Laureates of the International Radio Competition Concertino Praga will be obliged to substantiate their award by giving a performance in Rudolfinum in Prague and at the South Bohemia Festival Concertino Praga in June 2015. The Organizer may also invite Candidates who were awarded the Honorable Mention. The Gala Concert shall be broadcast live by Czech Radio 3 - Vltava. The Organizer shall do everything possible to have the concert broadcast by Czech Television and further broadcast by European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in the
season Euroradio in the course of the year 2015. Concerts from the South Bohemia Festival shall be broadcast by Czech Radio 3 - Vltava, live or deferred. The selected winners of the Nomination Radio Competition of the Czech Republic Concertino Praga shall perform at the South Bohemia Festival Concertino Praga, or at other concerts organised by the Czech Radio. Article 16 The Candidate awarded the Helena Karásková Prize shall also win the opportunity to make an own CD recording in the Czech Radio studios before or after the end of the South Bohemia Festival Concertino Praga. The recording shall be produced in an edition of 500 copies; 100 of those shall go to the Czech Radio in purpose of competition promotion. The recording and release of this non-commercial CD is intended as a support for the most successful Candidate of the competition who can use the recording for his or her own promotional purposes. The recording cannot be used for any commercial purpose without a written consent of the Czech Radio (conclusion of a license contract). The Czech Radio shall be the editor and right-holder. The Czech Radio reserves the right to use the recording for its promotional purpose and in radio broadcasting. Article 17 The Organizer shall provide EBU with Candidates Recordings who were awarded first and second prizes as a Pink offer. EBU shall receive this offer by one month from a jury session. EBU shall be also offered by all concerts broadcasting both live and recorded. Radio organisations which participated in the competition have a moral duty to broadcast these recordings. Article 18 The Organizer shall produce a non-commercial CD with the purpose of presenting the prize-winners of the competition. This CD, which can be used for promotional purposes, shall be given to all laureates. Article 19 The Czech Radio shall bear the following expenses: a) travel expenses and accommodation of the winners and one accompanying person within Czech Republic it means in Prague and at the South Bohemia Festival Concertino Praga but only in the case of transport and accommodation secured the Organizer. The Organizer does not cover the travel expenses and accommodation, which are ensured by laureate and his accompanying person themselves. The Organizer covers the transport to and from Czech Republic only to Laureates and their accompanying person. The Organization that sent the other awarded candidates to the Competition will cover the travel expenses to and from the Czech Republic their Candidates and their accompanying person. However, the prize-winners shall not receive a fee from the Organizer. No fee shall be paid to the Organization who submitted their candidacy
either. The accompanying person shall be delegated by the Organization who registered the winner for participation in the competition; b) expenses connected with the winners' public concerts; c) fees, travel expenses and accommodation of the jury members with the exception of the EBU representatives whose expenses shall be borne by respective Organizations. Article 20 Costs connected with the production of the Recordings submitted to the competition as well as costs connected with obtaining all EBU radio and television rights for the public performances in Prague and at the South Bohemia Festival Concertino Praga and mechanical rights for the production of the promotional CD shall be borne by the Organizations. Article 21 By submitting the Recording to the competition, the Organizations agree with its further usage by the Czech Radio and members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), first of all for the radio broadcasting, releasing CD of the best Recordings of the competition, releasing CD for the absolute winner and for the further promotion of the competition (e.g. access to the Recordings on the web pages of the Czech Radio). By sending an application form, Candidates (or their legal representatives) give consent to the Czech Radio to use the Recording, recordings of their performances at the June tour as well as to take their pictures during events following the competition and organized by the Czech Radio and use them to promote the competition (place them on web pages etc.) in unrestricted scope. At the same time the Organisations and Candidates fully agree with current regulations of the competition. Exaction of prizes by means of law is therefore excluded. The Czech Radio is the only subject having the right to interpret, or to change annually the regulations of the competition. In case of doubt or any questions, please contact the secretariat of Concertino Praga (for contact data see Article 2). Article 22 These regulations shall be available in Czech, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Russian. In the event of any dispute, only the Czech version shall be determining.
