SMART TV SEEKS DUMB NETWORK FOR MARRIAGE Roland THIENPONT and Keith CHOW November 2013 ALCATEL-LUCENT INTERNAL PROPRIETARY USE PURSUANT TO COMPANY INSTRUCTION

IP MEETS VIDEO IP and Video, a passionate and challenging relationship, where small things like fast channel change (FCC) and recovery of lost video packets make a great difference in building a long term solution... beyond the settop box Alcatel-Lucent s IP Video Assured Delivery Solution ensures an excellent quality of experience on STB, Smart TV, Tablet and mobile devices by optimizing the IP network for Video packets. Alcatel-Lucent s IP Video Patented technologies enhance both Linear and On Demand Video Experience. 2

IP VIDEO MARKET TRENDS BEYOND THE STB Key drivers for the Smart TV Vendors & Operators - Market trend (STB-Less IPTV) and Servicer Operators commercial drive - Operator as an App - Service providers will reduce the CAPEX and OPEX cost - E.g. no need to buy the STB to give to subscribers, no need to manage the CPE logistic - Energy efficient CPE which will meet the new local legislation (e.g. Switzerland, EU coming soon) - Same software stack will run on all Android devices, i.e. Smart TV, STB, HDMI Dongle Comments from Smart TV platform vendors - The Smart TV will be any Contents & TV centric, delivering Contents via both Multicast and Unicast (RTSP/OTT); Apps will be nice to have thing. - Smart TV platform will support Multicast with Alcatel-Lucent FCC/RET, timeshift TV (Alcatel-Lucent Cloud PVR, RTSP) and VoD HLS or MS Smooth Streaming - TV has two benchmarks: 1) fast boot time and 2) fast zapping times 3

DIGITAL VIDEO MPEG-COMPRESSED VIDEO FRAMES DEFINED MPEG decoder Start with I-Frame to decode stream Bidirectional (B-Frame) Relies on previous and future I- or P-Frame Group of pictures(gop) Collection P-, B-Frames for every I-Frame STB I B B P B B Raw digital video Subscriber May not get I-Frame right away, hence a slow channel change Intra (I-Frame) Only compression within frame itself (no reliance on other frames) Predictive (P Frame) Relies on previous I- or P-Frame MPEG encoder Smart TV or STB must wait for I-Frame to begin decoding with Audio packets lagging behind 4

SLOW CHANNEL CHANGE AND RISK IN VIDEO PATH TRADITIONAL APPROACH Protected by FEC Video path with some protection IP Network Set Top Box Access Node Router Video HeadEnd MUTICAST CHANNEL A MUTICAST CHANNEL B STB processing IGMP Leave and Join Fill decoder buffer ZAPPING DELAY ~1500ms+ Wait for : I-Frame & Audio frame, Descrambler readiness & Decoder readiness 5

MEDIUM FAST CHANNEL CHANGE AND PROTECTED VIDEO PATH A CONVENTIONAL APPROACH (THE DUMB NETWORK) Video path with protection FCC/RET Appliance Server STB IP Network Video HeadEnd MUTICAST CHANNEL A STB processing UNICAST CHANNEL B IGMP Fast Leave Fill decoder buffer MUTICAST CHANNEL B IGMP Join ZAPPING DELAY ~1200ms+ 6

ALCATEL-LUCENT S IP VIDEO ASSURED DELIVERY SOLUTION A SMART NETWORK APPROACH Video path protected, fast channel change enabled with perfect Video & Audio IP Network Multi-stage Flexible deployment Redundancy 3) FCC/RET client (for IP Connected Devices) 2) FCC/RET Server (7750SR + MS-ISA Card) 1) Re-wrapper MUTICAST CHANNEL A UNICAST CHANNEL B MUTICAST CHANNEL B STB processing IGMP Fast Leave IGMP Join Fill decoder buffer at bursting rate while it is being consumed Fast Zapping Delay <500ms with the best QoE <500ms 7

VIDEO COMPRESSION WITHOUT PENALTIES FCC MAKES ZAPPING TIME INDEPENDENT OF GOP SIZE Alcatel-Lucent FCC is independent of GoP Size, Start Decoder Delay Buffer, Audio delay Higher compression of video allows for more video channels to be delivered (multi room TV) or more bandwidth for other services - Thanks to FCC/RET the negative effects of higher compression (i.e. slow zapping and higher error impact in case of packet loss) are solved - Thanks to denting even the FCC does not go above channel bandwidth 8

THE CHALLENGES IN IMPLEMENTING FCC ON SMART TV AND CAM Typical live cycle of a Smart TV is ~7 years, it is relatively complicate to upgrade the SW in the field CAM: Needing suitable chipset and SDK with required performance, able to access to the decoder clock, descrambler, demux buffer and decoder to ensure the appropriate performance. Embedded in SDK, develop / integrate once for all. Available of SDK to third parties to develop the APP. Need to meet all regions and countries needs, i.e. no per country or per operator customization and middleware and or DRM/CAS vendors agnostic Common implementation and common interoperation testing for all vendors. 9

ALCATEL LUCENT s SOLUTION FOR FCC AND VIDEO RETRANSMIT MAKES SMART TV WORK SMARTER Consistent Fast Zapping and Perfect Video and Audio DRM and Middleware agnostic Small client foot print, very easy to integrate with any CPE device and standard compliance Open Alcatel-Lucent client technology to CPE Vendors 10
