Student Recital Checklist Pre-Recital Read the Recital Packet n the ECU website. (ECU Schl f Music Current Students Recital Packet) Meet with the staff in the Main Office t find times suitable fr yur recital. Take these dates t yur applied teacher and accmpanist fr apprval. When yu have tw suitable dates, fill ut the Recital Permissin Frm frm the Recital Packet and get the apprpriate signatures. Shuld yur recital require any special set up with audi reinfrcement/live sund, crdinate with the Audi Services Crdinatr BEFORE yur recital is scheduled. Turn in this frm t the Main Office n the designated days stated in the Recital Plicy. The sner this is turned in, the better chance f reserving yur desired date. Once yur date is cnfirmed, a ntificatin will be sent t yur applied instructr and accmpanist. Yu are respnsible fr ntifying any additinal participants. Shuld yu want a receptin schedule this at the same time yu schedule yur recital. Schedule extra set up time if yur recital requires a cmplicated stage plan. Schedule yur recital jury AT LEAST TWO WEEKS in advance f yur recital. In the event yu need t reschedule yur recital, if prper ntice is nt given, yu are nt guaranteed an ideal date r audi recrding services. It will be yur respnsibility t make all arrangements. Prepare yur recital prgram as per the ECU Cncert Prgram Guidelines (fund in the Recital Packet) BEFORE yur recital jury. Templates fr the student recital prgram are als fund under the same link as the Recital Packet. Yur teacher will prf yur prgram at the time f the recital jury. Reminder: d nt change fnt styles in the template r change text bx size. This will create prblems when printing. Only adjust the size f fnts. Psters may be hung n bulletin bards in the building t advertise yur recital. DO NOT tape psters t walls, drs, windws, r bulletin bards. Senirs are next t bk recitals and all thers will fllw until the cut ff dates listed. Graduate students and senirs will bk their recital in the Recital Hall. All ther student recitals, studi recitals and rganizatin recitals will be held in B110 r B105. Recital packets can be dwnladed frm the Schl f Music website. The student recital frm with the applied instructr s signature (vice department chair apprval required) must be submitted at the time f the request. The time frame fr recitals held during the week is 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Times fr recitals t be scheduled n Saturdays & Sundays: 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, 7:00, & 9:00 PM. Extra set-up and take dwn time will be dealt with n an individual basis. Recitals may nt be scheduled during Reading Day, exam days, after classes end at the end f Spring semester r days the University is fficially clsed. Students and applied instructrs are asked t give careful cnsideratin t the recital date t avid cancellatins. The recital frm & packet are lcated under current students n the Schl f Music website. Ten cpies f yur recital prgram must be turned int the ffice rm 102 in rder fr yu t receive credit fr the recital. Please turn them int the ffice prir t yur recital. These prgrams must be (half sheet 5 ½ X 8 ½). Bulletin Bards: A bulletin bard is prvided n the 2 nd & 3 rd flr landing specifically fr student recitals and student grup infrmatin. GUIDELINES FOR RECITAL SCHEDULING AND RECEPTIONS Event Scheduling in the A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall: 1. All scheduling is t be dne thrugh the main ffice. 2. Scheduling pririty will always be in the fllwing rder: Ensembles, faculty, required student recitals, nnrequired student recitals, nn-som events. 3. Each event shall have the green rm (B136) and the hall itself reserved fr a half-hur befre the scheduled start time prvided there is nt a previus event cnflict. Additinal time must be arranged with the main ffice. 4. Available event starting times are as fllws: Weekdays are 7:00, 8:30 r 9:00pm. Weekends are 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, 7:00, 8:30 r 9:00pm. 5. In the event tw recitals run back-t-back the later cncert will have t use the green rm (B136) in a sensitive manner. Remember that yur clleague is perfrming next dr, s please keep nise and mvement thrugh the perfrmance area t a minimum. The hall itself will nly becme available t the later cncert nce the first perfrmance has finished. Receptin guidelines: 1. Rms 136, 105 and 110 and the lbby (in frnt f the main ffice) are available fr any cncert receptins immediately after a perfrmance. Again, the main ffice will handle scheduling. 2. If tw cnsecutive events plan t have receptins, please wrk ut with yur clleague as t wh will use which rm and fr hw lng. Again, please be sensitive t the nise levels in and arund the perfrmance area. 3. Yu are respnsible fr the setup, running, and clean-up f a receptin. Stage managers are NOT respnsible fr this. If yu mve tables and chairs arund, yu must put them back where yu fund them. Failure t d s will result in revcatin f all hall and rm reservatin privileges. 4. There is n alchl f any kind allwed anywhere in ECU facilities. This includes receptins.
Plicy n Use f and Access t the Main Recital Hall Cncert Grand Pian The main Steinway cncert grand pian hused in the Recital Hall (RH1) is t be kept lcked and stred in the backstage area f the hall. The secnd Steinway cncert grand pian in the Recital Hall (RH2) is t be kept unlcked and always accessible and shuld be left n the stage and nly mved back stage when necessary. Bth pians are t be kept cvered when nt in use. When remved, cvers shuld be placed n a chair r table and never n the flr. Tw peple are required t mve these pians in and ut f the backstage area. Keys t the main Recital Hall pian have been permanently allcated in this way: Pian faculty (4) Staff accmpanists (2) Pian technician (1) Tw keys in music ffice (2) Directr f Chral Activities (1) Fur Seasns Managing Directr (1) Keys t the lcked Recital Hall Steinway cncert grand pian may be signed ut fr temprary use by any f the faculty wh d nt have a permanently assigned key and any pian majr wh is preparing a sl r du recital t be perfrmed in the Recital Hall. Generally this instrument is nt t be used fr accmpanying student recitals except when perfrming with a faculty r staff member. The exceptin t this will be thse recitals that are accmpanied by a nn ECU faculty r staff member if the applied teacher is willing t temprarily sign ut a key fr the accmpanist. The student perfrmer and accmpanist must initiate this request with the applied teacher wh will accept the respnsibility f temprarily signing ut a key frm the music ffice. Prepared pian and extended techniques must be reviewed by the pian technician and apprved by the chair f the keybard department in advance. Extended techniques include any uncnventinal methd f generating sund in the pian such as intrducing freign bjects int the pian, plucking r muting the strings, and marking the pian, etc. Any faculty member may petitin the Keybard Department t sign ut a key t the pian fr permanent use. The request shuld be sent by email t the Chair f the Keybard Department and must include justificatin f why they shuld be assigned a key fr permanent use. The Directr f the Schl f Music will be invlved in this decisin prcess.
