PROTÉGÉ SYSTEM Introduction The Protégé System is a powerful integrated alarm and access control management system designed to provide integration with building automation, apartment complex control and HVAC in one flexible package. Communicating through a proprietary high speed protocol across an encrypted RS-485 network using modular-based hardware design, system installers have the flexibility to accommodate any installation from small or large, residential or commercial. Application Note Information The following application note describes the configuration settings and information about displaying the time and date on the Protégé LCD User Stations. This allows the time and date on the LCD to be shown to the user who is using the keypad and also when time and attendance requires a local time and date display device. PROGRAMMING Overview The following programming screens will show you how to program the screen with a default time and date display using the format definitions, refer to Format Definitions on Page XX. Protégé System 11:06AM The result of the programming settings that are detailed in the following sections is shown to the left on the display screen. The time will be shown in the center of the LCD display. A large number of format defintions excist for the display with the ability to build your own time and date display settings. Keypad Programming Programming the time and date format definitions on the LCD keypad is achieved by setting the default text for the system. Programming The Time Format Definition A format definition is a character preceded by the "&" character in a string. For example if you enter in the default display screen "&T" the definition will be replaced with the current time, as an example 10:04PM. Enter user code: ****** AC Failure time: 030 Secs Def LCD Line 2 By ICT Def LCD Line 2 Def LCD Line 2 &T Login to the LCD keypad using the installer login user code or a suitable code that has been programmed with the Menu 4 access to the system. Go to the panel programming settings by selecting the Panel Programming Menu. Press [MENU, 4, 9, 2]. The display will show you the first panel configuration entry (AC Failure Time). Press the [ENTER] key repeatidly until you reach the default display screen for the LCD. Make sure you stop on the default display line two. The text shown on the screen to the left may be different on your system if you have changed it from default. Press the [DISARM] key to delete the text on the display. The text shown on the screen to the left may be different on your system if you have changed it from default. Press the [RIGHT ARROW] key until the cursor is located under the 'C' character. Press the [0] key until the ampersand charctor "&" is displayed. Move the cursor one location to the right and then press the [8] character AN-003 Displaying the Date and Time on LCD User Stations 3
until a "T" charactor is displayed. Press the [ENTER] key to save the setting. Viewing LCD Display Output Once you have programmed the above setting logging out from the keypad will display the time on the bottom line of the LCD display in the location that you put the format definition character "T". Protégé System Management Suite Programming Programming the time and date format definitions on the Protégé System Management Suite is achieved by setting the default text for the system under the panel options configuration screen that you want the display to be shown on. Programming Time Definition Login to the Protégé System Management Suite with an operator that has suitable access to program the panel configuration settings. For information on logging in to the software refer to the Logging In section in the Protégé System Operator Manual. The following example will create a default display for the LCD keypads as shown in the introduction overview. 1. Select the site that you want to program the controller on from the site selection drop down screen. 2. From the system shortcut bar select panel settings. Select the controller that you want to program from the list shown and right click selecting properties or double click to open the configuration screen. 3. The general options tab will be shown by default if it is not select the General Tab located at the top left side of the dialog box screen. 4. As shown above in Figure 10 delete the text in the Default LCD Display Text for Line Two and enter the "&T" in the location required. 5. Select the OK button to save the data to the controller (controller must be online). Refresh LCD Display Pressing the [CLEAR] key on the LCD keypad will refresh the display showing the current system time information. AN-003 Displaying the Date and Time on LCD User Stations 5
FORMAT DEFINITIONS Formatting Characters The default LCD text for line two is shown on all PRT-KLCD keypads when they are first connected to the system. This text should be changed to the name of the building, installation or owners details. Def LCD Line 2 By ICT To modify or enter a new name for the selected default LCD line item use the keypad as explained in section Entering Text and Names on Page Error! Bookmark not defined. and press [ENTER]. Set the text for line one to the company name, building name or other informative information. Def LCD Line 1 AB Corporation Def LCD Line 2 &T &D &V AB Corporation 10:18am 19 Sep Program the time and date formatting characters in to the default display for Line 2 as shown below. The above setting will display the time in standard 12 hour format with the AM and PM indicators in lower case, then the day of the month followed by the three letter abbreviation for the month. The display that will be shown on the keypad would be shown as follows: A large number of formatting characters allow the customization of the display to show many different variations depending on customer requirements. The currently available formatting characters are shown in the following table. Character T t M m G Function Show the time in 12 hour format with the am/pm symbol in upper case following the time. Example 11:02PM. Show the time in 12 hour format with the am/pm symbol in lower case following the time. Example 11:02am. Show the time in 24HR (Military Format) with a leading space for numbers below 10 hours. Example 9:00 Show the time in 24HR (Military Format) with a leading zero for numbers below 10 hours. Example 4 or 12 a leading space is used for all numbers below 10. Show the month in 2 character format. Example 04 or 12 a leading zero is used for all numbers below 10. Show the day of the week in abbreviated 3 characters. Example Mon or Fri. Y Show the year with leading zeros. Example 05. C Show the century. Example 20 or 19. K k Show the temperature from the local temperature sensor on the LCD keypad in Degrees Celsius. Example 22.5 C. This will be updated from the LCD keypads temp sensor. Show the temperature from the local temperature sensor on the LCD keypad in Degrees Fahrenheit. Example 76.5 f. This will be updated from the LCD keypads temp sensor.
