SAHASHALEYA UPAKRAM SAMITI 2014-2015 WEST ZONE CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 19-29 September, 2014 INTRODUCTION: The objective of "SahaSha1eya Upakram" is to provide the children a platform to express their talent through various competitions that will help them to attain all round personality. With reference to the circular from the Deputy Director of Education, Greater Mumbai following activities will be conducted during 2014-2015 from 19 th September, 2014 to 29 th September, 2014 at the Ward level. For students of secondary school 1. Mono Acting 2. Folk Dance 3. Band 4. Elocution 5. Group Song 6. Lezim 7. Drawing 8. Instrumental Music 9. Role Play (Newly introduced) For students of Junior College 1. Elocution competition 2. Mono acting For Teachers of secondary school/jr. College 1. Elocution competition 2. Mono acting GENERAL Competitions for the students will be held under 3 groups G 1 - Std V to VII G 2 - Std VIII to X G 3 - Std XI to XII Top 2 performances at the ward level competition will be selected for the district level. Ward level results should be sent to the Chief Convener by 29 th September, 2014 without fail. Venue school will not deviate from the given rules under any circumstances and judges should be informed about disqualification clauses in advance as given hereunder. The decision of the judges will be final and binding. TWO or THREE members judges committee to be formed for evaluation from the following: MUMBAI (WEST ZONE) CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 1. GROUP SINGING (G 1 and G 2) : a. Maximum time limit is 5 minutes b. Number of students should be between 5 to 10 c. Only non filmy, patriotic songs will be permitted. d. Principal must certify that the teachers accompanying the Sugam sangeet and playing the supporting instrument (Harmonium, Tabla etc) are the staff members of the school.

Voice - 10 marks Laya - 10 marks Bhava - 10 marks Selection of song - 10 marks Perfomance - 10 marks 2. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (G1 and G2): Competitions comprise of following major sections :- 1. String instruments (Tantu Vadya): Sitar, Violin, Guitar, Veena, Santur (Casio not allowed) 2. Percussion instrument (Tal Vadya):Tabla ("Tal" and types of Tal) Dholak, Mrudanga 3. Wind instrument (Sur Vadya): Harmonium, Flute, Mouth Organ RULES :- a. Students should bring their own instrument. b. Time allotted is limited to 7 minutes or else it will be disqualified. c. One student can select only one instrument. Only ONE supporting instrument will be allowed. d. Only National Songs/Raga will be allowed to be played. Shruti - 15 marks Laya - 15 marks Raga - 10 marks Impact - 10 marks 3. LEZIM (GI and G2) : Each school will be considered as one unit and each school can send only one entry. Types: Dakhhani practical to be presented. RULES :- a. Number of participants should be up to 40. b. Time limit is 7 minutes including entry and exit. c. Dress Code: For Girls : White salwar kameez/skirt. For Boys: White half pant and baniyan Or School uniform. d. Time limit and uniform to be strictly observed. e. Use of whistles, drum, band and recorded music will not be allowed and whistle should not be used while changing the exercise. Only instrument like Halgi, Tasha, Dhol, Janza, Gungroo and Shahnai can be used. Entry & Exit - 10 marks' The display quantity - 15 marks Rhythm (Tal) - 15 marks Co-ordination of the movement - 10 marks - 4. BAND (G1 and G2) : Each school will be considered one unit and each school can send only ONE entry. a. Type of Band : Welcome, Guard of honor, Retreat (Swagat, Manvandana, Nirgaman).

b. The display will be in the order mentioned above. c. National songs will be played on flute. (No National Anthem) d. Number of students should be 15 to 20. e. Time limit will be 10 minutes. f. Dress Code will be as specific dress selected by the School g. Only big drum, small drum, bugle, janza, flute, band stick (maiyacha gol). Presentation - 15 marks Rhythmic movement discipline and movement - 15 marks Team work - 10 marks Dress - 10 marks 5. FOLK DANCE (G1 and G2): a. Group should consist maximum of 17 dancers. b. Live music not allowed, only recorded tapes are allowed. c. No film songs will be allowed. d. Decent folksongs and costumes will be appreciated. e. Please note that weightage is given to the selection of theme and its cultural value. f. Time limit: Maximum 10 minutes. Rhythm - 10 marks Co-ordination - 10 marks General 'presentation - 10 marks Authentic costumes - 10 marks Team & cultural value - 10 marks 6. ELOCUTION (G1, G2 and G3): RULES a. Only one entry per school in each group. b. Students can participate only in the medium of instruction of their School. c. Languages: English, Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Gujarati. d. No separate prize for each languages. From all languages only two participants will be selected for district level competition. e. Time limit - Maximum 3 minutes. f. Time Management - 10 marks 7. MONO ACTING (G1, G2 and G3): TOPIC: Any historical event/personality. RULES. a. Participants: One from each group. b. Time limit: maximun 5 minutes for each group. c. Costumes relevant to the character will be allowed. Presentation - 10 marks Voice modulation - 10 marks Gesture - 10 marks Impact - 10 marks 8. DRAWING COMPETITION (G1 and G2): G 1 : Standard V to VII Topic :- Pollution on a beach after Ganpati visarjan. G 2: Standard VIII to X Topic :- Football match in progress. RULES. a. Drawing paper size 11 x 15. b. Time limit for both group 2 hours. c. Materials to be used - Poster colour, Water color, Oil Pastel etc. 9. Time limit 5 minutes. b. An episode or an event of a character from Indian History (costume compulsory). c. Prizes in elocution irrespective of languages. d. As such judges should cover all language groups. Presentation - 10 marks Voice modulation - 10 marks Gesture - 10 marks Impact - 10 marks IMPORTANT Please note that 2 competitions viz. Folk Dance and Role Play will be conducted at the National Level for Academic Year 2014-2015. The venue school will mail the details of the Judges like name, qualification, institutions etc at least 2 days before the event to kotianprema@yahoo.com

Venue schools will submit the photographs and results in duplicate to the Main Convener Mrs.Prema Kotian (Purushottam High School, Bandra East) as soon as the competition is over. PLEASE SELECT ONLY 3 PRIZES FOR EACH COMPETITION (1 ST, 2 ND AND 3 RD ). TWO WINNERS FOR THE SAME POSITION IS NOT ALLOWED. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE PRESENT FOR COMPETITION IN CIVIL DRESS EXCEPT FOR LEZIM COMPETITION. SCHOOL UNIFORM IS NOT ALLOWED FOR OTHER COMPETITIONS.
