Fiction Adventure: a story that almost always take place outside. There is lots of action and often an enemy. The enemy can be nature. Kids adventure books often involve a journey or quest. Realistic Fiction: has characters and events that are like people and events in real life Mystery: a story that focuses on questions such as these: Who did it?, Where is it?, or What happened? The action centers on finding the answer to the question. Historical Fiction: a story that is set in the past and portrays people, places, and events that did happen or could have happened Humor/Comedy: A book of jokes Science Fiction: a story that tells about science and technology of the future. Stories often include robots. Fantasy: an imaginative story that may have unrealistic characters and events Folktale: stories that were first told orally. They reflect the customs and beliefs of a culture Legend: A story from the past that tells the feats of one main hero or heroine. The person was real, but not all of the facts of the story are real. Myth: a story involving the gods of a culture which sometimes explain how things came to be in nature. Fable: a short story (usually with animal characters) which has a moral or lesson.
