Please Review Prior To Installation The interviews recorded by CaseCracker can be very important and quite sensitive. An interview recorded without sound or video may impede an investigation. Please consider the following protections for CaseCracker in the monitoring room: CABLE PROTECTION - Cables need to be "dressed" and secured properly to prevent kicking, being stepped on, rolled over, etc. This may include using rubber duct cord covers, micro conduit, raceways, cable channels, etc. CHASSIS PROTECTION - Computer chassis should be up off the floor to prevent kicking, or drinks spilling into the unit. INPUT CONNECTOR PROTECTION - Computer chassis should be positioned to prevent being pushed back against a wall which could damage input connectors. VIEWABLE - Monitor should not be positioned in direct sunlight, both to protect the monitor and also to allow easy viewing. PRIVACY CaseCracker needs to be located in a room with privacy so officers can review sensitive or high publicity interviews. Internal Affairs videos cannot be reviewed in an open setting where anyone walking by can observe interviewees. QUIET CaseCracker needs to be in a quiet room or location so officers can hear suspects who mumble or are difficult to understand. Copyright Cardinal Peak 2015 (v.10) 4
Interview Room: Camera, Microphone and C-Flag Receiver Installation Camera Placement: PIR Camera (or dome camera) should be located in a corner, between 6.5 and 8 feet (200 cm to 245 cm) from the floor, near the ceiling in a plausible manner in which a security system motion detector would be installed. The camera view should include as much of the room as possible including the interviewer, interviewee, and door. This should ensure a good Scene-View of the room. Note: Do not mount the camera where the view will be blocked with the door in the open position. should be located 4-4.5 feet off the floor, directly across from the suspect. This should ensure a good Face-View of the subject. To achieve the best camera views for your room, connect each camera to the video cable and power supply. Then, using a field test monitor confirm proper position and alignment in accordance with customer requirements. Lighting: Lighting is exceptionally important for cameras to provide a good image. You may consider having a second light installed in the overhead if needed. Also, a window with sunlight coming in will close the iris of the camera causing a backlight issue, which will obscure the subject. Microphone Placement: The microphone should be mounted on the ceiling, either in the middle of the room or over the location of the subject and the interviewer. To the extent possible, please avoid placing it near HVAC vents. Sound dampening / absorption / deadening panels may help improve sound quality inside the room. C-Flag Receiver Placement: The C-Flag receiver should be hidden and mounted in the ceiling above or right next to the interview room however this should be in a space that the relay clicking is not audible to the suspect when a flag is added. Typical location is above drop-ceiling acoustic tiles, just outside the room. There should be no impediments (such as concrete walls) between the interview room and the receiver that would block the signal. Some buildings have a lot of RF noise which prevents the GRD receiver from recognizing the transmitted signal. If this is the case, as per Linear Corp., remove the provided antenna to lower the sensitivity of the unit. Also be sure to set the dipswitches according to the instructions. Location: The Monitoring Room where the CaseCracker unit is located should be within 1000 feet of the interview room(s). A desk or table at comfortable typing height should be provided, with clear space on top of the work surface of at least 3 wide by 2 deep. Within 3 of this work surface, there must be space (either on the floor, on a shelf, or on the work surface itself) for the computer chassis. At least two power outlets with standard 120 VAC (or 240 VAC for overseas) must be located nearby, one for the computer and one for the monitor. Cables: All wiring to the Monitoring Room must be terminated near the location of the CaseCracker system. Please leave 3 of slack available for each cable. It is recommended that cables are labeled for ease of setup or relocation of the CaseCracker system. For example: Room 1, Audio Room 1, Room 2, Audio Room 2. CaseCracker unit: Set up the CaseCracker unit, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power supply. Audio: Connect the cable from the interview room microphone to the Interface Adapter (IF) audio amplifier. Connect the power supply. Connect the Interface Adapter (IF) to CaseCracker. See Louroe documentation for test and adjustments for optimal audio. Use the USB U- Control for Room 2 audio input. : Connect video cables from the interview room(s). Monitoring Room: Workstation and Peripherals Setup Flag Adapter: If the customer ordered a C-Flag only, then: Connect the wires from the Flag Receiver (GRD) to the Flag Adapter, pins 17 and 25 for room 1, 18 and 26 for room 2. Connect the USB cable to the CaseCracker Workstation. C-Control (C-Flag/S-S) or C-Start / Stop: If the customer ordered a C-Control / C-Start/Stop only, then: See connection diagram on next page for wiring details. Finally, connect the controller to CaseCracker with provided USB cable. Final Steps: Test both video channels with audio. Verify all cabling is dressed and secured to prevent being tripped over, stepped on, or being pulled out of ports. Copyright Cardinal Peak 2015 (v.10) 24
