Just one song cn completely lter ptient s mood. ountless times I ve hd the nurse step into the room nd sy, Look t the improvement in those vitls! fter singing song with the ptient. I ve hd child who ws curled up in pin strt strumming the smll hrp I held in front him, then sit up nd continue strumming wordlessly for ten minutes, eyes shining, his pin forgotten. I ve hd fmilies visiting seprte ptients who were roommtes, with the curtin closed between them, open the curtin to join together in song, nd continue singing fter I left the room. Music brings drmtic results to ptients who hve Alzheimer s, dementi, nd other memory disorders. I went there to visit her nd she ws completely
with it--she knew everybody's nme, remembered me, remembered the ccident, her fmily, everything. She ws getting redy to go home, nd sid she ws nervous nd scred, which certinly seemed pproprite to me.
