Valley of the Goats December 2015 Happy Holidays! From Your Cactus GTO Club Board of Directors Desk of the Prez Hi everyone, Since we re putting out a December newsletter to recap the year and extend our best wishes for everyone to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I figured this would be a good time to note some of the things we did in 2015. January started off with our After Christmas Dinner at Frank & Toni Gostyla s place in Scottsdale, catered by Tom s BBQ. Their mobile rig really worked out well for us: good food, good service and fair prices delivered to our door. In fact, it was so good we re using them again in January for our next holiday party. Other events we got involved with: Russo and Steele Classic Automobile Auction, Jan. 16-25 Cruise to Picacho Peak with Desert Renegades, Feb. 22 Goodguys Spring Nationals, Westworld, March 13-15 Harding and Son Phoenix Swap Meet, March 28-29 Buick-Olds-Pontiac Show, Scottsdale Pavilions, March 29 Adopt-a-Highway Clean-up, April 11 and Oct. 24 Pontiac Heaven Drags and Car Show, April 18-19 Watson Lake Car Show, Prescott, Aug. 1-2 3 rd Annual Car Clinic, Oct. 17 All Pontiac/GMC Truck Day, Tucson, Nov.14 Some important decisions and upcoming events I want to highlight for our members:
1. Our club has been invited to the Desert Renegades Christmas Party and White Elephant Exchange, Sunday, December 13 at 1 pm. The party will be at the restaurant at Deer Valley Airport. 2. Our club is offering members a chance to sell parts at the Todd Harding and Son Swap Meet on Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 9-10. Contact me if you are interested! 3. The club is donating $300 to the St. Mary s Food Bank to help buy turkeys for the homeless this year. Nice thing here is our money is doubled by local business organizations so they end up with $600.00 to feed and clothe the needy. Plus: Join us for Toyz for Totz on Dec. 6! A big event I d really like to see us all turn out for on the 6th of December is the Toyz for Totz run to Wickenburg, AZ. The club will buy toys for each club participant. I will help coordinate securing the toys, and will have them available for all that agree to participate. Call me at 623.444.8949, or e-mail me at dennyd46@cox.net with a confirmation or questions. See more details below! Just a reminder, we will be having our last club meeting of 2015 on Wednesday the 9th of December at Denny s off the 143 and University in Tempe at 7:00 PM. Send them a GTO for Christmas! Well, a 70 Judge convertible might be a tad expensive, but you can certainly send a holiday greeting with one, thanks to Automania (www. automaniaspecialities.com; 936.441.8209). The company sells cards with sketches of classic GM, Ford, Mopar, and import favorites. They also have a 66 GTO hardtop. The box is $22, and you can mix and match the three Goats or any other cards for a separate charge. Inside, the card says, Oh What Fun It Is To Ride/Best Wishes For A Classic Holiday Season. Indeed. Watch for these shows on TV!! New TV series to spotlight auto appraisers Many in the hobby have been searching for quality car programming that does not involve reality drama, wrench throwing, foul language, incorrect information and lack of believability. Thanks to the folks at Chip Taylor Communications there is a new show debuting on Velocity Channel starting December 5 at 8 and 8:30 p.m. EST called "The Appraisers." Mike Jewell Rosewood on Fox features 69 GTO convertible Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr. is a Miami-based private pathologist who comes upon a crime scene and deduces the cause of death and the scenario leading to it in a matter of minutes. And he does it with charm and humor to boot. Rosewood, played by Morris Chestnut, drives a vintage bright-yellow Pontiac GTO. We thought about something standard, like a Ferrari, explained Chestnut, [but] he s his own man, so we went with something unique. He added that the car s color accents his character s core values: Yellow is the color of optimism. Yeah, I like that! Mark Neumann For Sale 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix LE. Loaded, 305 V8, bucket seats, new battery, brakes, tune-up. Runs very good. 110,000 miles. Asking $1,950. Call Mike Jewell @ 509.939.0080
