WELCOME W Greetings and Welcome! All of us with System Blue would like to congratulate you on your decision to join us in what we believe are the finest educational events in the world of marching arts! Regardless of the specific track, you ll soon discover that we offer real-life experiences along with the tools to become better leaders, better musicians, and better performers. You ll find that we all share information freely and that there are no secrets to becoming your best. You ll have direct access to some of the most honored and accomplished instructors in the drum corps and marching band arenas, and they ll lead you down the path that helped them get where they are. But prepare to be challenged! You ll soon find yourself charting new territory on your own personal path toward excellence. To help you get the most out of the experience, look carefully at the information provided in this event packet. Pay particular attention to the What To Bring page. Some machines take card, some take cash. Pre-purchase a pass online. o NOTE: Select the correct date for use when purchasing online and print at home then bring to display on dash. INFORMATION CHECK IN Please refer to the map to find parking and check-in location. If you haven t paid your registration fees, please make sure to bring cash or check made Payable to System Blue. YOU MUST HAVE A SIGNED MEDICAL FORM TO PARTICIPATE, if you are under 18 years old a parent/guardian must sign this form as well. FOOD AND WATER System Blue will provide the meals listed in the schedule. You should have listed if you were a vegetarian on your registration. We will make sure that there is a vegetarian option for everyone that asked for it on their registration. If you have any other food allergies, please let us know at check in on your medical form. If you need to bring your own food, we can help find a place to store it for you. You will NEED a water jug to use and refill for the day. We will have snack breaks throughout the day as well as any meals listed in the schedule. INSTRUMENTS System Blue cannot provide instruments and equipment, so please make sure to bring your instrument unless you have made other arrangements with System Blue staff. PARENTS You are more than welcome to come and watch any of the event. We will do a brief/informal show and tell at the end of the event. If you come to the check in area (see map), we can tell you what building/classroom each session is in. FIRST AID We will have a first aid kit on site, but we cannot pass out pain killers/aspirin/muscle relaxers. If you are hurt or feeling sick, please tell someone on the System Blue staff! Please make sure that you are prepared to spend most of the day in the sun sunscreen (reapply), hats, sunglasses and PLENTY OF WATER! WHAT TO BRING MEDICAL FORMS You will not be able to participate in the event if you don t have a signed medical form. Please find the forms at the end of this event packet. ATHLETIC SHOES Proper footwear is a MUST for health and safety during visual rehearsals (marching technique sessions). Sandals, flip-flops, boots, and other non-athletic footwear is not permitted. ATTIRE SUITED FOR MOVEMENT & FOR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES Shorts and light-colored T-shirts are best suited for outdoor activities. Freedom of movement is essential for stretching and visual block (marching/movement technique). Please, no jeans! Sunglasses Cap or visor OTHER ITEMS FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY Insulated water jug (half-gallon or larger). Though water will be provided, it is essential that you have own personal water supply for outdoor rehearsals. Sunscreen (for skin and lips!) Personal medication (ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc.). System Blue cannot provide medication of any kind. MONEY (OPTIONAL AND APPLIES TO SUMMER EVENTS THAT COORDIATE WITH A DRUM CORPS SHOW) Concessions are available at the stadium. Most of the drum corps performing will have souvenirs for sale. COLOR GUARD YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT- A flag pole with a silk attached that you are comfortable with any size, any color. If you would like to learn rifle and/or sabre, please bring that equipment as well any size, any brand. We encourage everyone to try all 3 pieces of equipment, no matter your previous experience. If you spin with gloves at your school, please bring them. LEADERSHIP YOUR MARCHING INSTRUMENT - Since we ll have music rehearsals indoors and outdoors, be sure you bring an instrument appropriate for both. Bring your own reeds, valve oil, and other accessories. If you have a music stand please bring it. PLEASE NOTE: If you play oboe, bassoon, or another concert-only instrument, and you play a secondary instrument in marching band (flute, clarinet, saxophone, etc.), please bring your secondary instrument only. If you do not have access to an outdoor instrument, you are still welcome to observe (and participate as is practical) in music rehearsals. Unfortunately, System Blue does not have instruments available to loan. PERCUSSION DRUM & STAND - Bring a drum and a stand that is appropriate for your needs. Any brand, size or color is acceptable. We will not do any marching, so don t need carriers, but will use stands. You can securely store you drum at the school for multiple day events. Bass drum players: Please bring appropriate mallets any brand is acceptable.
