/Preface/ Wollah GUSO gabbers & kechjes!!! After the overwhelming success of the previous GUSO stage at The Hoge Rielen, we are exploring the more southern sides of beautiful Belgium to rehearse this semester! This time with the frightening theme 'Patser' and of course also a different, albeit matching, repertoire. (Because, as you may know, Beethoven was a real patser!) So, put on your adidas trainings and Gucci chains, because we re going to give the best of ourselves for 3 days and we ll get to know the finest sides of Beethoven's 7th Symphony. Of course, the patsers Poulenc and Rautavaara will not be missing from the program. All practical information about the stage weekend can be found in this booklet. Do you have any further questions? Then you can always contact one of us! Warm greetings, The board. 3
/ Where are we allowed to behave like a patser? / Address Cultural Center Marcel Hicter La Marlagne Chemin des Marronniers 26 5100 Namur Free parking is connected to the complex. Public transport Take the train to Namur and then continue your journey towards La Marlagne. Since the domain is an 8 km walk from the station of Namur, we will take a TEC bus. But don t worry, team logistics will arrange everything! Everyone is expected there at 12 pm. 4
Departure from Ghent We will meet on Friday at 8.30 am in Station Gent-Sint-Pieters. From there on, together we ll take the train at 8.54 to Namur (with a minor switch of trains in Brussels South). Take care of your train ticket yourself! A GO pass is the cheapest option for - 26 year olds. In Namur we take the TEC bus to La Marlagne, which will be about a half hour drive. The patser-buildings: We eat in 'Salle du restaurant' (wow, could it sound any more elegant?! ) We sleep in Bâtiment Central. 5
The tutti-rehearsals will be in the theater. The buildings are not so far from each other, but you can certainly get lost in them, so make sure you leave in time for the rehearsals! For the partial rehearsals we spread out to 'Salon Multimédia', 'Bar Théâtre' and 'Ateliers 12 & 13'. Who is expected where, will be communicated later on. The bar evenings will take place in the 'Bar du Théâtre'. As you may know, our beloved matjes have just received a thorough wash. We would like to keep them clean, so from this year on, no more coke, beer, coffee... on the mats! Only water! (And the smart guys who come up with the argument 'Wollah, beer is made out of water, you know!', This doesn t work with the board... If you choose to do it, you will not pass by Start, you will not receive 10g of cocaine, and you ll go directly to the patserprison!) 6
/ Who is who? / /coaches/ To ensure that you get to know the finest tricks of Beethoven, Poulenc and Rautavaara, we have assembled a team of professional coaches especially for you! Just take a look below to find out which patser you will spend the partial rehearsals with: / Robin van Heghe / With regret in our hearts we said goodbye to our beloved concertmaster last year But, you need not worry, because he will be present again this year during the weekend to guide the violins through all those quick notes! / Bernard Dewulf / The second violins also welcome back an old acquaintance. Bernard already gave tips and tricks on the extremely difficult passages in Sibelius last year, and the second violins were grateful! Once again, he comes to share his knowledge and musicality with us. / Dino Dragovic / They are sometimes called the 'bruises of the orchestra', our precious violas, but of course we can t do without them. That is why they will be assisted by an expert in the field during the weekend. Dino will therefore do everything he can to finally get rid of the famous viola jokes! (And of course, he will also effortlessly guide the violas through the difficult passages!) / Jaap Kruithof / During this weekend, the cellos will be coached by a new face for GUSO. Jaap will use his musical experience to make the cellos swing on Beethoven and to get to know the different motifs in Poulenc and Rautavaara. 7
/ Bram Decroix / The smallest string section is now almost as big as the violas, and they will be coached by a big GUSO expert. Bram is no longer a new face for many people, but he certainly can provide our basses with new musical insights! / Esther Gruyaert / This year, the woodwinds are coached by Esther, a new face for GUSO. A young, strong lady who already has a lot of stage experience in the profession. Esther will therefore do her utmost to get the woodwinds all at the same (tone) height. / Stefaan De Loenen / Stefaan is also no longer a new face for the brass players. He already leaded the partial rehearsal this semester, so on the rehearsal weekend, he will be able to continue his work. / Jelle Soen / The brass players are lucky this weekend, because they get a second coach, and it is a horn player! Jelle will do his utmost on Friday to guide the brass players through the quick notes and get all chords at the right tone. / Percussion / The percussionists will not get an external coach this weekend, but they ll experiment themselves how they can vibrate the timpani at the right rhythm or which stick(s) they can best handle for each piece. Real patsers don t have to cook themselves, but are served to their liking! That is why we don t need a cooking team this year, but are pampered by La Marlagne's catering! 8
/ Schedule / In this rehearsal weekend there must be: laughter, food, drinks but there must also be a lot of rehearsal!
