Physical Education & Health Required full year combined course: 1 quarter of Health plus 3 quarters of Physical Education (PE)

Physical Education P.E. focuses on physical activity, fitness, wellness and team building. Strength training, cardiovascular endurance, fitness testing, small team and individual games are covered.

Physical Education Students are required to: - Purchase a lock from the school. - Dress in either a plain gray shirt, Scullen Wear, athletic shoes, and any athletic shorts/pants.

Health Health Education covers the different aspects of physical, mental, and social health. Topics include: Overall Wellness Social Relationships Mental & Emotional Health Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Diseases Reproductive Wellness

Essential Technology and Creative Technology Required semester courses for all students

Essential Technology Introduction to word processing along with spreadsheets, charts, graphics, and presentation software are taught. In addition, Internet safety and search strategies are also covered. Students will continue to work on keyboarding skills.

Creative Technology Students will continue to learn more advanced topics in the Microsoft Office Suite. In addition, Photoshop, Scratch, Moviemaker, and Adobe Illustrator are introduced. This class is only required for 6 th graders if they plan on taking a foreign language and are in Band, Chorus, Orchestra.

Art Students will develop skills which include drawing, painting, collage and ceramics. Students are regarded as artists and offered real choices for responding to their ideas and interests through the making of art.

Orchestra

Band & Orchestra No previous experience necessary! All students are encouraged to start an instrument and be involved in our GRAMMY-recognized District 204 music program. Band and Orchestra have a curriculum through 12 th grade. Students are encouraged to stay involved! Scullenmusic.weebly.com

Band & Orchestra Students with prior experience and who will be enrolled in band may audition to participate in Jazz Ensemble or Wind Ensemble. Auditions will be held in May. Students with prior experience and who will be enrolled in orchestra may audition to participate in Chamber Strings (honors orchestra) in September.

Band & Orchestra Please mark your calendar to join us here on Wednesday, February 4 th for Band & Orchestra registration. Quinlan & Fabish (our preferred music vendor) will be here to help ensure that your child has an instrument for the start of the new school year!

Band & Orchestra Registration February 4 th - Last Names: A-D 4:00 p.m. E-H 4:30 p.m. I-L 5:00 p.m. M-P 5:30 p.m. Q-T 6:00 p.m. U-Z 6:30 p.m.

Combo Students enrolled in band and orchestra who also enjoy singing, may opt to be a Combo student and be involved in both classes. Combo students attend band/orchestra on Mondays and Thursdays, chorus on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Wednesdays alternate each week. Mark both classes on your registration form.

Chorus Chorus OPEN to all incoming 6 th graders

Chorus No previous experience necessary. Students are encouraged to participate throughout middle and high school. Opportunities to sing in curricular and cocurricular groups (Honors Chorus, Treble Singers, Bass Ensemble). Band and Orchestra students may also join through the Combo program.

General Music All students not involved with Band, Chorus, or Orchestra will take this course. Students learn about and listen to music from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic times periods. Students review and learn music notation and write their own music compositions.

Design & Modeling In this Project Lead the Way (PLTW) course, students are introduced to STEM and engineering concepts. They use the design process to solve problems and understand the influence that creative and innovative design has on our lives.

Design & Modeling In PLTW, students will also be using a standard 3D modeling software, Autodesk Inventor, to create a virtual image of their designs.

6 th grade Family and Consumer Science Is a project based quarter long class that incorporates 21 st century learning skills (creativity, problem solving, collaboration, communication, productivity, leadership, and responsibility).

World Languages & Cultures This course is an introduction to Chinese, German, French and Spanish. It includes culture, geography, and basic vocabulary and grammatical structures. The purpose is to expose students to languages that they might want to study in middle or high school.
