ROTARY CLUB ABIDJAN RIVIERA PROJECT CRESCENDO CONTEST OF MUSIC AND TRADITIONAL AND MODERN SONG October 2008 1
CONTEXT /JUSTIFICATION The musical culture supports the realization of being, the artistic expression, and remains a means for the awakening of the potential of creation since the low age. For multiple reasons (important budged field, bad press, assimilation with the delinquency, absence in the cultural projects of the families generally with low income and especially a difficult art who engages the body and the spirit, condemns the mediocrity, and reveals our weaknesses quickly) the young people are not encouraged to adopt a serious and durable musical career, they prefer to be limited to the practice of the song. Admittedly the state of ivory coast have set up an academy of music which since a few years, fact the happiness of good number of registered student but, considering the capacity of lower reception at the request of the young people in major part without employment, considering the dearness of the musical instruments and in spite of efforts of schooling, the right to musical education and the instrumental practice remain inaccessible to a large part of the population and especially to those of the cities out of the capital Abidjan. The training of the music should belong to our education because it: Stimulate intelligence (creativity, concentration, logic) Learns the rigorous, the practical direction Develop manual skill by the practice of an instrument Reinforce the training of the foreign languages and self-knowledge (to control its emotions when one plays in front of a public). Socialize (to sing in chorus, to play in orchestra, to put at the service other musicians, to respect their work by its quality, to listen its partners) 2
Inattentive (who which listens to it, but more still that which can practise it) United the people beyond the borders and supports peace and the world agreement. If the stress is laid on the promotion of this vast field and a support granted to young talents, artistic professions such as: Leader, chief of chorus, instrumentalist, concert performer or soloist, editor of partitions, data processing specialist, programmer of musical software, tuner of piano, technician of sound, critical musical journalist, music therapy, administrator of school of music or orchestra, profession of teaching etc will be new ways for the insertion of the young people in the professional life in Africa. In 1990 a group of friends of the Ivory Coast named DIAPASON, had initiated an international contest of instrumental music and traditional song initiation degree with the higher degree. This contest with fact of dreaming of all the traditional instrumentalists and singers residing in West Africa country. During the military and political crisis in Ivory Coast, the dream of the participants (approximately 450 candidates per year) was stop with the departure of the organizers from the Ivory Coast considered from the time as a high-risk country. To make dreams real again and to contribute to bring back peace in the heart of the traumatized populations, the ROTARY CLUB ABIDJAN RIVIERA want to give a chance to these unwanted through an international contest of music and traditional and modern song called CRESCENDO. The idea which found an favorable echo within a group of professionals of the music, eager to make revive the music in Ivory Coast. 3
