Thanks to Miss Kane for running the club and to all the people that come and work incredibly hard to get the magazine ready by the deadline. There is loads of jobs that have been evenly dished out. By William Ladbrooke This year I chose Mrs MacIver to be the Teacher of the Term, I decided to give her an interview, just like last year. Here are the questions and her answers: How do you feel about being teacher of the term? I am very honoured! I ve always wanted to be teacher of the term- just in time as well! I would like to thank my mum and dad, my old ballet teacher and my pet tortoise for supporting me in getting here! What s your favourite food right now and why? Right now I enjoy eating everything and anything so I would advise nobody to leave their snacks lying around near me. Usually though, my favourite food is sushi. Where s the best place you ve ever been and why? This is such a hard question, there are so many! One that stands out is a tiny island in Fiji: It has no electricity, shops or restaurants. FUN TEACHER FACTS Amy and I (Lee) chose to do the Fun Facts. We went around most of the teachers and found out, fun and interesting facts about our teachers. So here they are: Ms Smith- Ms Smith hates the feeling of biting into a sandwich, so she has to break it up into tiny pieces to eat it! Mr Dagger- Mr Dagger hates the feeling of cotton wool on his fingers, and the feeling of tinfoil on his teeth. We stayed in a hut on the beach after asking the village chief s permission to spend time there. It is the most beautiful, unspoiled place I have ever been. How long have you taught at schools? Around 8 years. Have you ever worked at something other than teaching, where? Yep! I have had lots of jobs in my younger days. I have worked as a Business Analyst and in a Stockbrokers. My most fun job was as a photographer in a huge theme park in America. Do you like ice-cream? Of course! Do you have any? I m hungry again. Did you enjoy this interview? By Lee Dagger Mrs Travers- Mrs Travers was once a gymnastics coach, and a tennis coach. Miss Ellis- Miss Ellis has to have the volume on her car radio at an even number, never an odd one. Mrs Cowie- Mrs Cowie was once a professional potterer. She made loads of pottery. Mrs MacIver- Mrs MacIver has been skydiving from 10,000 feet, pretty scary! Miss Kane- Miss Kane went paragliding; she screamed the whole way! (If you don t know what it is, ask her)! Mrs McGrane- Mrs McGrane used to be in a band. She sang on North-side radio. She even wrote the lyrics for their songs! Mr Adamson- Mr Adamson has to put his left sock on first! If he puts his right sock on first he loses his balance and falls over! How to make a festive paper chain You will need: Various amount of COLOURED card 1 Glue stick 1 Pair of scissors How to make: Hold paper portrait and cut strips down the paper. Then put a bit of glue on one end and stick into a loop. Then copy the sequence but make sure you don t make the loop without putting the strip through the first hoop. You can then draw patterns on the hoops. By William Ladbrooke P7 Christmas Card Company P7 are currently making a Christmas Card Company. There are six different designs which are very nice. Some people are very stressed but some people are really enjoying it! Two different facilitators are picked every day. It costs 1.50 per card ask in school for details on special offers. Our School Trips P5 Trip to the Viking Training School On our trip we went to the national museum of Scotland.We had time to look around all of the galleries. We then looked at some Viking artefacts then went to a Viking workshop and dressed up as a Viking. We learnt that Vikings didn t have double sided horns on their helmets or double sided axes. We also learnt about runes (The Viking alphabet).we found out that they had three very important gods, Odin, Thor and Freya. We had a great day out. We all had Viking nicknames. By Sophie Mercer (skull cracker) ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. P6 Trip to Hopetoun House Primary 6 went on a trip to Hopetoun House where they learnt about Victorian times. They learnt that male staff were the most respected. The people that were the least respected were the scullery maids. They had to work ALL day in the kitchen, cleaning and cooking. P6 got to look around Hopetoun House dressed up as servants. We all went down to the butlers pantry and did servants jobs such as ironing, washing dishes, washing clothes and general work. It was a great day!!! P4 Trip to Botanic Gardens p4 have been learning about the rain forest. They went to the Botanic Gardens and a nice lady called Ginger showed the class around the green houses where they learnt about rainforest plants such as bamboo. They had a great day out. Primary 1/2s trip to the Seabird Centre Primary1/2 went on a trip to the Seabird Centre. Their topic was sing a song of sixpence. They were lucky enough to see baby seals. They saw them on the isle of may and they also saw peregrine falcons on the bass rock. They heard a story about puffins.they really enjoyed their day out. By Sophie Mercer and Megan Galloway Albert Roux Gala Dinner P7 are doing a dinner with Albert Roux, half of them are serving and the rest will be in the kitchen. Their parents and other guests are coming. Ben Watson, Albert Roux and Miss Searle Will be helping p7 to run the evening. All the money raised will go to the teapot trust, a charity for unwell children in hospital to have art therapy. Ballotine of free range Scottish chicken, savoy cabbage with fondant potato, chicken jus Warm pear and tonka Bean crumble vanilla ice cream School Clubs Rugby Classes Mr Adamson runs a rugby club for P6 and P7 on a Wednesday after school from 3.20 to 4.30.It is incredibly fun!!!! We are learning how to do full contact, it can be a bit sore sometimes. Funky Fun Funky Fun is a club for Primary 1 and 2 run by Miss Ellis on Monday straight after school. They do lots of fun themes each week, it includes lots of exercise! They play ball games, tig, competitions for two people and for a group. 22 children go. Online Magazine We meet on a Tuesday after school. It starts at 3:20 and ends at 4:30. At the magazine club we make an online magazine about the school and other things. We make a comic strip which is in this issue. By William Ladbrooke, Benjamin Boswell and Katie Arnold Jack and the Beanstalk Some people in p3-7 and more in high school have contributed to a Christmas pantomime in Gullane, called Jack and the bean stalk. They are doing it on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of December in the evening. It will be full of comedy and hard work. On the 10th of November 2011, the Pupil Parliament held an assembly to let everyone know what was going wrong in the playground. We went through a power point and discussed the matters that we needed to. We also talked about the girl s toilets and the boys cloakrooms. Toilets- Toilets have been far too messy. Keep them clean! Cloakrooms- Same again, too messy! We re going to be asking around if everybody is happy with what s going on around the school, so if there is anything speak to a member of the pupil parliament. Keep your eyes out in the playground to see if everybody is behaving how they should please; it s not easy for us to keep an eye out all the time! Gingerbread Men Ingredients Plain flour 390g Baking powder 2½ teaspoons Ground ginger 1 tablespoon Ground cinnamon 1 ½ teaspoons Ground nutmeg ½ teaspoon Salt ¼ teaspoon Butter 115g Light brown sugar 150g Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon Large egg 1 Dark molasses 110g Tools measuring cups scales large medium mixing bowl wooden spoon oven mitts electric mixer rubber spatula plastic wrap 3 baking sheets rolling pin small man shaped cookie cutter Step 1 In a medium sized bowl using a wooden spoon stir together the flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Step 2 Beat the butter, brown sugar and vanilla with an electric mixer until creamy. Step 3 Turn off the mixer and add the dry ingredients. Mix on a low speed until the dough looks like moist pebbles. Dump the dough on a clean work surface. Shape it into a solid mound and divide in half. Wrap each in plastic wrap and put in the fridge for about an hour. Step 4 First preheat the oven to 180 c and butter 3 baking sheets. Then sprinkle a work surface with flour, unwrap one of the dough balls, sprinkle it with flour and roll it out. Get your man shaped cutters and make your cookies. Step 5 When one baking sheet is full put it in the oven for 10-12 minutes, until it is light brown around the edges. Before you decorate your biscuits leave them to cool for 15 minutes. ENJOY!!!
