The Music & Magic of Broadway Formerly Diablo Light Opera Company (DLOC) The 2010 2011 Musical Season
As the pace of change in the world continues to increase, it s nice to know that some things can still be counted on (besides death and taxes). You can count on our company to go all-out to produce live musical theatre that inspires imaginations and enriches lives. And you can rest assured that you ll also get some healthy doses of joy and laughter. We did make one important change this last year. We changed our name from the venerable Diablo Light Opera Company (fondly know as DLOC by many) to Diablo Theatre Company. The reason was simple, we no longer produce light opera and in the future we may add plays or other types of performances to our repertoire. The new name gives us more flexibility to shape our future. But we are still the same company, unchanged in our mission to deliver the music and magic of Broadway right to your East Bay doorstep. Our commitment to artistic excellence hasn t changed. Even in the recent tough economic times, our last season was artistically successful with the productions of On the Town, in collaboration with Company C Contemporary Ballet; the Northern California Premiere of Curtains, the musical comedy whodunit. In June we will present a thrilling production of Sondheim s Into the Woods. Our STARS 2000 Teen Theatre Company presented Guys and Dolls and the hilarious musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Our youth programs are growing and we ll soon formally launch the Diablo Theatre Performing Arts Academy. We feel it s imperative to cultivate the next generation of theatre lovers and artisans to keep our valuable art form alive. Allow me to present Diablo Theatre Company s 52nd season, designed to deliver as much fun, laughter and joy as we can fit into our productions. We hope you ll join us. Daren A.C. 7 Giddy, whimsical and remarkable February 11 March 5, 2011 13 performances An agoraphobic musical theatre addict chases his blues away with his favorite LP the 1928 musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. His hi-fi crackles and the musical magically bursts to life as he narrates the tale of the uproarious wedding day of a celebrity bride. A host of crazy characters delivers a delightful combo of every classic, clichéd plot thread ever to grace the stage. Catchy music plus the narrator s witty commentary make this show brilliantly modern.
