WORDS IN MOTION 2014 -- accepting poem entries now! Words in Motion is RMWB s 3rd annual poetry program. Everyone living in our region is welcome to share their talent in writing poetry. Selected poems will be displayed on Wood Buffalo Transit buses and various media outlets throughout our region. Authors of the selected poems will be invited to participate in the launch event at the Fort McMurray Public Library in April to celebrate National Poetry Month. A Night of Laughs The Comedy Factory presents A Night Of Laughs down at Bailey's Pub on Friday February 21st and Saturday February 22nd. Get your abs warmed up for this unbelievable Night of Laughs. winterreels: 100hr Film Challenge -- February 12-16 16 2014! The Fort McMurray Filmmakers Association and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo proudly presents the winterreels Film Challenge; a part of the 2014 winterplay Festival! Returning for its 2nd year, winterreels will be a 100hr Film Challenge that encourages teams to Write, Direct and Edit a short film within 100 hours. All films must include 3 special elements released only at the Kick-Off. $1000 plus trophy and certificate will be awarded to the best film! Kick-Off will be held in the Keyano Recital Theatre Lobby at 8pm on Wednesday, February 12 2014. Teams will have until 11:59pm on Sunday, February 16 2014 to complete their film. CLICK

The Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo is gearing up for its annual Multicultural Expo being held Sunday, February 16th, 2014 in the MacDonald Island Nexen Field house. The Multicultural Expo brings diverse cultural groups together and features food, dress, traditions, customs, artifacts, and dances from all over the world. Travel the world and immerse yourself in diverse cultures without paying for plane tickets! We are looking for representatives from diverse countries and cultural groups to participate in the Expo. A classic tale of passion and destruction based in 19th century France. The sung-through pop opera is filled with instantly recognizable and memorable songs that will make audiences hearts soar. Preview: Thursday, February 13 at 8pm Opening: Friday, February 14 at 8pm Shows: February 15,18,19,20,21,22,23 at 8pm Colonel Chris Hadfield at the Fort McMurray Public Library Good morning, Earth. That is how Colonel Chris Hadfield-----writing on Twitter-----woke up the world every day while living aboard the International Space Station for over five months. Since blasting off from Kazakhstan in December 2012, Hadfield has become a worldwide sensation, harnessing the power of social media to make outer space accessible to millions and infusing a sense of wonder into the collective consciousness not felt since man first walked on the moon. Called the most famous astronaut since Neil Armstrong, Hadfield, now safely back on Earth, continues to bring the glory of science and space travel to everyone he encounters. Tickets will go on sale for Chris Hadfield on March 25 (10am) at the MacDonald Island Box office or online at www.macdonaldisland.ca. As usual, the Library will hold a draw for ten pairs of tickets to the event. Winners of this draw will be notified prior to tickets going on sale. This annual fundraiser features an intimate evenign with William Shatner on March 15. Other highlights of the event include wine tasting, live and silent auctions and a dazzling post-performance reception. Funds raised will assist Keyano Theatre in its commitment to build a vibrant arts and culture community in Wood Buffalo. Keyano College Career Fair The Keyano College Career Fair is a two day career information and job fair. The fair promotes opportunities for informed career and education planning, and connects employers with employees. The fair is happening on Friday Feb 7 from 12-5pm and Sat Feb 8 from 11-4pm. Fort McMurray SPCA second annual Cupcake Day On February 24, 2014 the FMSPCA will be hosting the second annual Cupcake Day, a fun and delicious way to raise critical funds to help create a positive future for the voiceless animals throughout the region. Dust off your aprons Wood Buffalo and join them for some friendly competition on the sweetest day of the year. Get involved by hosting a cupcake day in your office, school, home or business, take photos of your creations and enter our contest. The FMSPCA will also be selling cupcakes at the shelter from 11am to 5pm so come on by for a sweet treat in support of animals in our region. For more information on how to get involved contact events@fortmcmurrayspca.ca Disney s Mulan Jr. Takes Audience to Ancient China Take a journey to ancient China with Holy Trinity High School Students with their production of Disney s Mulan Jr, an action-packed stage adaptation of Disney s Mulan. Director, Nancy Lawson, along with students and staff from Holy Trinity High School, are working hard to present this musical. It will be staged on their home turf at the Suncor Energy Centre for Performing Arts. The show "Disney s Mulan" runs from Friday, February 7 through Sunday, February 9. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the box office at Suncor Energy Centre for the performing arts at Holy Trinity High School. Shows are at 7 PM on Friday and Saturday, with a matinee at 2 PM on Sunday. Contact the school at 780-792-0012 for more information. Valentines Day Dance at the Legion Come on out and have some fun, meet new people, at the Fort McMurray Social Dance Club's Valentines Day Dance. No partner or experience is necessary! The event takes place at the Royal Canadian Legion on Feb 14 from 8:30-11:30pm. FM #468 First Nation Fishing Derby Wanna reel in five grand? Come out to Gregoire Lake on February 15, 2014. Fort McMurray, #468 first nation is holding their 1st annual ice fishing derby! Biggest fish gets the biggest prize! Biggest fish gets five grand! Registry is fifty dollars and begins at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Follow the signs out to Indian Beach on highway 881. Family fun includes youth prizes of up to one grand! Kids under eighteen fish for free! Public Records is a grant program offering up-and-coming musicians and filmmakers an opportunity for a grant to create a music video, along with educational workshops that nurture and develop their talent. Grant recipients form film and music teams to create music videos that will be broadcast in their local communities on TELUS Optik TV. Emerging musicians and filmmakers in Fort McMurray have the opportunity at up to $7500 in grant awards and exclusive access to education and workshops on how to develop and market their artistry in Canada.
