2 This reproducible collection provides opportunities to enhance hymn singing with the use of handbell embellishments. Anna Laura Page has provided two settings for each hymn, labeled standard version and enhanced version. They may be used in various ways at the discretion of the director. They are intended to be used along with piano or organ accompaniment, and a list of compatible hymnal harmonizations for each hymn is provided on page 3. In order for bells and keyboard to be compatible, the organist/pianist should play the accompaniment from one of the hymnals on the list. However, the congregation can still sing from other hymnals as long as the rhythms are the same. Be sure to check hymnal tune indexes, since many of these tunes are used with multiple different texts. These settings may be played with just bells and piano or organ if desired. Please note: For those who may not have easy access to one of the fully compatible hymnal settings, in some instances we have listed and footnoted hymnals that are almost compatible. Slight modifications need to be made in the bell parts to match these hymnal settings. Permission is granted to make such rhythmic or harmonic adaptations in the handbell parts to match your hymnal. Here are a few possibilities of how these embellishments may be used for a hymn with three stanzas.
