AUGUST 1-4, 2019 GLIMMERGLASS FESTIVAL 2019 SUMMER THEATER IN COOPERSTOWN Francesca Zambello Artistic and General Director Glimmerglass Festival

DEAR YALE TRAVELER The legacy of great performances is alive and well at Yale where a passion for drama is in our DNA. I invite you to renew and indulge your own love of the theater with Yale Alumni College this August, on a four-day excursion to the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York. Glimmerglass is dedicated to innovating new, little known and familiar operas and musical theater productions. We ll be seeing mainstage productions of Kern and Hammerstein s Show Boat, Verdi and Piave s La Traviata and Corigliano and Hoffman s The Ghosts of Versailles. This season will also include the world premiere of Blue, a new opera by Jeanine Tesori and Tazewell Thompson. Francesca Zambello, artistic and general director of the Glimmerglass Festival, among other key festival speakers, will offer in-depth discussions to the group. Take an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the opera house and enjoy the open-air design and magnificent acoustics of the theater which allows for each opera to be heard crisp, clear, and unamplified--as it was intended. Come for the Opera, but also enjoy the many treasures that Cooperstown has to offer. Our accommodations will be at the Otesaga Resort, overlooking Lake Otsego. The picturesque views and exquisite amenities leave nothing to be desired. We ll kick-off the weekend with a welcome reception at the theater, followed by an elegant dinner at the resort. Our program will also include complimentary passes to local museums and attractions and much more. WHAT TO EXPECT Stimulating group discussions with Francesca Zambello and other theater experts Tickets to 4 classic and modern operas/plays World Premiere viewing of Blue Lively commentary on the plays from members of your group Reception/meals at the festival Transportation to and from the theater Gracious accommodations including breakfast at the Otesaga Resort Hotel Passes to 3 local museums I m delighted to extend this invitation to join us for Yale Alumni College s very first theater program, operated in association with Yale Educational Travel. You may secure your spot now by visiting, yaleedtravel.org/glimmer19 or by calling us at (203) 432-1952. Lauren Summers Senior Director, Lifelong Learning and Travel YALEEDTRAVEL.ORG/GLIMMER19
