The Evil King - Unit 7 Worksheets - Reader 5 More Reading Worksheet 1 Read the story about a brave young man called Horatius Once upon a time in Rome there lived a wicked king who was hated by his people. They drove him out of Rome. He went to the king of Tuscany and begged him to help him get his kingdom back. The King of Tuscany agreed and sent his troops to Rome. The enemy troops neared a bridge which was narrow and made of wood. The Romans wanted to cut the bridge in two to prevent the enemy from marching across to Rome. A young Roman named Horatius came forward and asked the Roman soldiers to start cutting the bridge at one end while he went to the other end to stop the enemy. He put up a brave fight and managed to keep the enemy at bay until the bridge was cut in two. The bridge fell into the water with a great noise and Horatius fell into the river with it. The rough river was in flood but brave Horatius swam across to the shore.the Romans carried him on their shoulders and built a statue of this brave man.
