For this paper you must have: appropriate faciities and materias for producing and recording compositions. Time aowed 20 hours Instructions Choose one Brief from this booket, either A, B or C, and compose music in response to it. Brief A: you must answer both questions and incude a score for each question. Briefs B and C: you must incude a score or annotation. You must incude a recording on CD or mini-disc. You must compete your chosen Brief within 20 hours of controed time, supervised in your centre. For a Briefs you must aso incude a written review (maximum 500 words). This may be written after the competion of the Brief and outside the 20 hours of controed time. Your work must be produced unaided. Information The maximum mark for this paper is 60. 7 Brief B: Free Composition or Pastiche You shoud compose music in a stye and genre of your own choice. The compete piece shoud ast 5 to 8 minutes. It may be a singe movement or may consist of up to three separate, reated sections. If you submit a score, it shoud make your intentions cear. It must contain a the information necessary for performance, incuding the names of instruments, the underay of any text, dynamics, phrasing and articuation. If it is not possibe to provide a score, an annotation shoud be written. This shoud incude as much detai as possibe about the structure of the work, its musica materia (chords, meodies and rhythms) and the instruments, voices and sound sources for which you have composed. 8 Brief C: Arranging You shoud arrange Saior s Song, Chorus and Saiors Dance by Purce, using the version which foows. The arrangement must be in a recognised pop, rock or jazz stye. It can be intended for acoustic instruments, eectronic sound sources or a combination of both. It shoud ast 5 to 8 minutes. The ensembe must incude a rhythm section consisting of: drum kit and/or percussion doube bass or bass guitar guitar and/or keyboard instrument. Any number of instruments and/or voices may be added to this rhythm section. The piece has three musica sections, abeed A, B and C on the score.
