Light edgewear to jacket; spine cloth split and evenly, shallowly frayed at top; small nick to front board at top extremity, front board lower corner bumped and exposed, cloth very slightly weakened at front joint; front hinge slightly mobile, but sound; occasional light pencil marginalia; small ink and pencil note to rear endpaper. [54668] $1,250 A very attractive copy of Steinbeck's sweeping family epic.

2. Carroll, Lewis [Gwynedd M. Hudson]. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Nottingham, UK: Boots the Chemist [Hodder & Stoughton], circa 1930. Centenary Edition (in dust jacket). [55184] $950 180pp. Quarto [25.5 cm] Decorative gilt-stamped red cloth over boards, with warping and discoloration to the boards, the text block is cracked a couple of times, and there is a previous owner's name written discreetly at the head of the front free endpaper. In the illustrated dust jacket, with a number of tape repairs backing, primarily, closed tears, and moderate fading to the spine. The rear panel is a bit moisture stained. Contains 12 tipped-in color plates with printed tissue guards, along with numerous two-tone and monochrome illustrations. All plates are crisp and bright. Gwynedd Hudson was a British artist and designer who created exceptional illustrations for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Peter Pan. 3. Carroll, Lewis [Gwynedd M. Hudson]. Nottingham, UK: Boots the Chemist [Hodder & Stoughton], circa 1930. 180pp. Quarto [25.5 cm] Decorative gilt-stamped blue cloth over boards, with prominent warping to the boards, heavy damp staining to the rear board, and there are small open tears in the bottom margins of pp. 155-168. Contains 12 tipped-in color plates with printed tissue guards, along with numerous twotone and monochrome illustrations. All plates are present. [55154] $300 4. Carroll, Lewis [Gwynedd M. Hudson]. Centenary Edition. 180pp. Quarto [25.5 cm] Decorative gilt-stamped red cloth over boards, with warping to the boards, and heaving fading to the spine. The text block is cracked multiple times. There is a previous owner's name on the "This is the book of" page. Contains 12 tipped-in color plates with printed tissue guards, along with numerous two-tone and monochrome illustrations. All plates are crisp and bright. [55187] $350

First trade edition. 259pp. Octavo [24 cm] Blue cloth over boards with wraparound illustration. The spine is rolled, the extremities are rubbed, and the head of the backstrip is a bit torn. The text block is just beginning to crack at p. 189. Dance 064. [55155] $400 Includes fifteen full-page illustrations by Lynd Ward plus illustrations scattered throughout. This is Lynd Ward at the height of his powers, and this gothic novel may be the perfect avenue for his work. 6. Wilde, Oscar; John Vassos. The Ballad of Reading Gaol. New York: E.P. Dutton & Co., Inc., 1930. Early printing of the edition illustrated by John Vassos. SIGNED. 124pp. Small quarto [24 cm] 1/2 black cloth over blue striped paper covered boards. The title is stamped in gilt on the backstrip. There is a pronounced indentation along the top edge of the front board, the edges of the boards are a bit dulled, and there is a minor moisture stain to the top edge of the text block. There is a bookseller's ticket at the foot of the rear pastedown. In the dust jacket and original glassine wrapper. The glassine wrapper is a bit creased, and has a number of thin losses from the edges. The dust jacket is bright, and has periodic small open tears in the edges. [55183] $500 Includes sixteen black and white illustrations by John Vassos, who also illustrated Salome. Vassos was a 1930's book illustrator and long-term industrial designer. This copy is signed by Vassos on the half title page.

The spine and boards show light edge wear, and the endpapers are discolored. In a heavily worn, price-clipped dust jacket, which is torn in half. Dust jacket art by John Held Jr. [55152] $500 Newman Levy's verse illustrated by John Held Jr. This copy is inscribed by both the author and illustrator, in the year of publication, on the front free endpaper. 8. Rhoades, Gale R.; Kerry Ross Boren. Footprints in the Wilderness: A History of the Rhoades Mines. Salt Lake City, UT: Dream Garden Press, 1980. Revised expanded edition. 416pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Blue cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles, and a gilt stamped bust on the front cover. Illustrated throughout. The top fore-edge corners of the covers are bumped. The half title page has a previous owner's notation. In a dust jacket, with creasing, light rubbing, and a number of small closed and open tears in the edges. [55153] $250 Purported history of Thomas and Caleb Rhoades and the alleged lost gold mines of the Spanish, the Ute Indians and Brigham Young.
