As editor of New Zealand s most iconic title, Alice O Connell carefully selects each and every story within its pages - commissioning and curating features that celebrate Kiwi women, find solutions to their struggles and relate to every aspect of their world. An award winning magazine editor, Alice believes part of the Weekly s enduring success lies in the unique relationship it fosters with its readers. A true national icon, the Weekly continues to be a trusted and cherished companion to New Zealand women proudly facing their 40s, to those elegantly 80-plus. The Weekly has stayed true to the strong foundations laid down in its very first issue in 1932, says Alice. We continue to uphold the objectives set out in that very first editorial, a promise to be a source of usefulness, cheerfulness and happiness... to teach, to entertain, to assist and to amuse. Eighty-five years later, It s a promise we stand by today. The Weekly is a magazine with true heart, and continues to be relevant, essential reading to its loyal subscribers and followers from every corner of our beautiful country. Alice O Connell Editor

What our readers have to say I read it for competitions and to keep up to date with fashion and gossip. I enjoy reading the biographies of people in New Zealand. I also like the up-to-date fashion and health stories. It s a Great read and is especially written for the more mature woman. It s content is down to earth, very relevent. My mother read it all her life. When she died my eldest sister (now aged 74) continued the tradition of buying it weekly. It s a trusted, handy magazine and it s been around so long. It s like an old friend who I rely on for help with removal of stains and good recipes it s so important for a woman like me in her mid-sixties, to have a magazine that s suited to my tastes. It is a truly Kiwi mag and features all the gossipy stuff and competitions that I like. It always contains interesting stories, whether they re about celebs or real kiwis (which are of far greater interest to me!) It also has great recipes and puzzles to keep me entertained. I enjoy reading all aspects of the magazine. I learn things from the health, beauty and parenting pages, enjoy the Hollywood gossip, and am inspired by the stories of real New Zealanders. There are interesting articles about NZ people. The cooking section has realistic recipes and the fashion is suitable for ordinary Kiwis. And I do like doing the puzzles! It s a family thing. My mum buys it and will pass it on to me to read. We have done this for years.
