-- Invoice from Ebsco and Gale for GVRL titles to follow From: Mata, Lorena Sent: Monday, May 04, 2015 12:42 PM To: Blackman, Shelley; Ott, Heather Cc: Nguyen, Thu K. Subject: RE: 30K Budget for Books Based on recent print orders that I ve done (Villarreal, Salem Press, ABC-Clio), I believe I may have got us down to $14,000. In addition, Cambios tapped into the account to purchase the recently received Math Textbooks. Not sure how much in orders you ve submitted Shelley, but I believe we may now be down to $5,000. Thu will double check but is also waiting on invoices to confirm deducted amounts as shipping and tax are included. Because so much has been spent on print, I d like to see the rest of the funds spent on digital content. I, too, have been asked by both faculty and students access to JSTOR. Based on JSTOR s website, the Art & Science Collection II provides a good distribution of disciplines covered compared to the other collections. Not sure if I understand the subscription fee, Annual fee $1000 & Capital Fee $1000? So $2000? Looks like, Shelley, you are confirming pricing. Based on remaining funds, I agree on priority: JSTOR Opposing Viewpoints And if there s remaining funds, purchase titles to add to EBSCO. Unfortunately, I will not be able to meet this Thursday, as I will be at a screening committee orientation from 1-3pm. Lorena From: Blackman, Shelley Sent: Monday, May 04, 2015 10:37 AM To: Mata, Lorena; Ott, Heather Cc: Nguyen, Thu K. Subject: FW: 30K Budget for Books Importance: High Just as a quick follow-up, I ve included some additional pricing information and notes on some of collections being considered below. From: Blackman, Shelley Sent: Monday, May 04, 2015 10:19 AM To: Mata, Lorena

Cc: Nguyen, Thu K.; Ott, Heather Subject: 30K Budget for Books Importance: High Hi Lorena / Thu I wanted to send you an update on the collections and purchases I have been researching for ways to spend the 30K we received from TitleV / Cambios. According to the last spending update I received from Thu we should now have approximately 19K left to spend. These are the resources/collections I feel we should spend the remaining funds on. I ve listed these immediately below in order of priority. In the table below I have included some notes on various products I ve looked at and some rationale for why these resources are being considered: 1. JSTOR 2. Opposing Viewpoints 3. Ebsco ebooks (particularly STEM collection +Choice Academic titles) 4. GVRL (We can look at usage report to identify additional titles for purchase) 5. Ferguson s Career Titles (through InfoBase Publishing) Lorena Since I haven t had a chance to look at the Ferguson s titles in-depth, can you take a look and see what titles in particular we should consider adding? Can you take a look at functionality / content / currency and relevance of this collection? E.g. are there career titles in degrees/ certificates / areas of study we offer here at Evergreen? Heather I am including you in this discussion since you have had some experience working with JSTOR / Opposing Viewpoints and you have had a chance to look at this collection when I had you research it for me last semester. Please chime in with your suggestions and opinions. Since I have quite a few meetings this week, the soonest day I can get together to finalize items for purchase will be this Thursday (any time between 1 and 3 pm). Thanks for sending me your thought / input. Shelley Database / Product Vendor Price CCL Participation Notes Opposing Viewpoints in Context Gale $1,418.00 50% off of $2836 --1 st year promotional cost 49 of 112 institutions (almost 44%) Part of Gale s phasein pricing plan We will need to pay 75% of listed price 2 nd year; Full price 3 rd Question: Is it

possible to put amount *on deposit* so we can guarantee renewal for next year? year PROS: Excellent interface; good coverage of hot topics issues; links to news sources for upto-date coverage on topics CONS: Does not duplicate ALL of content found in OV print set (due to Tasini some authors do not give copyright permission to reproduce articles ) Some sophistication on part of the user is required since students need to be able to differentiate between source types on results screen Infobase Academic ebook Collection InfoBase Publishing List price is $2,439.00 (subscription) $2,139.00 for ccl discount pricing Custom collection purchase is available Different subject Not that many. (I think SJCC is only college that has these) Collection of ebooks published by Facts on File, Chelsea House and Ferguson. There are 1849 titles, all in PDF. See Heather s Comments on usability and interface My impression not suited for upper division, scholarly research or subjects. More of the introductory Facts on File Dictionary of available in similar titles Also noted some content (e.g. for

Physics, Astronomy) slightly out-of-date I recommend we consider purchasing Career Titles (Ferguson s) only EBSCO ebooks Ebsco Price varies according to collection / title / number of users Recommend we make some purchases and put $ on deposit for later additions Price for collections / titles are in the ECM Superior collection of publishers More academic publishers incl U. of Chicago Press, Oxford U. Press, Routledge, Wiley Science major academic publishers Also includes Choice lists (best books for academic libraries) Flexibility in purchasing various numbers of simultaneous users Ebsco Collection Management Tool is an easy-to-use and convenient way to make selections Invoicing is speedy JSTOR Academic Collections (Recommend Purchasing Arts & Sciences II) JSTOR Need to confirm pricing Rationale: Many instructors have asked for this (in all disciplines) Collection being recommended is particularly strong in following subject areas: Anthropology, Asian Studies, Ethnic Studies, Middle East Studies Notable titles included Hispanic American Historical Review; American

Anthropologist; Gender & Society Addition will fill the need for peerreviewed, fulltext, scholarly content in disciplines Notes on Ebsco ebooks ebooks are downloadable Subjects / Collections are available -- can be displayed by year created No minimum or maximum number of titles 1 link will direct users to all titles collection We can combine ebook titles with databases We also get MARC records for econtent can be customized Invoiced in about 2 weeks after selection added More on Jstor Arts and Sciences Collection II The Arts & Sciences II Collection adds depth to many disciplines introduced in Arts & Sciences I, such as economics, history, and Asian studies. Arts & Sciences II also offers core journals in several additional disciplines, such as archaeology, classics, and African, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Slavic studies.
