GUIDELINES FOR ARTICLES INVOLVING EMPIRICAL RESEARCH AND DATA ANALYSIS ORGANIZATION & STYLE Authrs f articles reprting empirical studies shuld prepare manuscripts in accrdance with the Publicatin Manual f the American Psychlgical Assciatin, 6th ed. Frmatting instructins and instructins n preparing tables, figures, and references, and well as a full sample article, appear in the manual. Hwever, due t the interdisciplinary apprach encuraged by Prjectins, we will als cnsider nntraditinally structured empirical articles. Such articles may be best served by nging discussin f results as they are presented rather than the traditinal separatin between Results and Discussin sectins. Please nte that such articles must still include all the necessary infrmatin set ut in the APA publicatin manual and fllw the SAMPL guidelines fr statistical reprting (see belw) t ensure full transparency and ptential fr replicatin. The abstract shuld nt duplicate the text verbatim but rather include the research questin r puzzle, identify the data, and give sme indicatin f the findings. ARTWORK Authrs are encuraged t include up t 6 figures, including tables and/r still images. Clr images are encuraged fr the nline versin, but these will be printed in black and white in print. Fr ptimal reprductin, figures r phts shuld be submitted as high-reslutin JPGs r TIFFs (300 ppi), r as EPS files with all fnts embedded. Additinally, all images shuld be at least 4 x 4 inches at 300 ppi. Tables shuld be made and submitted in Micrsft Wrd r rtf. Cntributrs can capture images frm DVDs with any number f sftware prgrams (e.g., Tpaz fr Windws; DVD Snap fr Mac). By transferring images t Phtshp, cntributrs can cnfigure them t 300 ppi and resample them t a suitable size. All figures and tables shuld be in separate files and numbered cnsecutively; nly placement indicatrs and captins with credit lines shuld be included in the articles themselves. In additin t a descriptive captin, each image shuld be prvided a credit line, indicating the distributin cmpany that wns the image and the year in which the image was released: e.g., Pulp Fictin (Miramax, 1994). SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS Submissins f articles and discussin pieces must nt be under cnsideratin r review at any ther publicatin. Authrs shuld ensure that all self-identifying infrmatin (including metadata) is remved frm all parts f the submissin except the cver page. Authrs may indicate if they wuld like their submissin t nt be sent t a particular persn fr review if there is a cncern abut, e.g., bias. Referees are nevertheless assigned at the editr s discretin. The review prcess wrks as fllws: (1) Article submissins are given an initial prereview screening by the editr and/r the assciate editrs. The editr decides, based n the submissin s alignment with the jurnal s Aims and Scpe and its adherence t the submissin guidelines, whether t send the sub missin ut fr peer review. If the decisin is nt t send the article ut fr review, the editr cntacts the authr explaining the decisin with reference t the Aims and Scpe and/r the submissin guidelines. (2) The editr assigns at least tw blinded peer reviewers t cmment n the article and make a recmmendatin as t whether it ught t be published. (3) The editr receives the referee reprts and weights their cmments and recmmendatins. (4) At the editr s discretin, a third peer referee and/r ne f the assciate editrs may be asked t evaluate the article and ffer an additinal recmmendatin. (5) The editr cntacts the authr with ne f the fllwing decisins: a. Accepted uncnditinally. b. Accepted cnditinally, subject revisins carried ut t the satisfactin f the editr and in the time frame specified by the editr. c. Rejected, but with encuragement t revise and resubmit. Resubmissins must nrmally be made within three mnths f the riginal decisin and shuld track and/r utline hw the revisins have addressed the referee cmments. The resubmissins will be sent ut t at least ne blinded referee, and acceptance will be cnditinal n the suggested revisins being carried t the satisfactin f the editr. d.
