Jitterbug Jive Dedicated to the Bop, Shag and Swing Dance Styles Volume 30* ISSUE 7* December 2018 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We have some catching up to do here. The November monthly party went very well, with Donna Becker decorating with a fall football theme. I think that Donna does a fantastic job of setting up each monthly party it takes time, forethought to figure out what to do, and how to do it. Give her a thanks the next time you see her! While we are at it, between Sandy Webster and Kathy Fuller, they furnish the birthday cake each month. Sandy is also our membership coordinator, as well as our Club Secretary. Kathy... well anything she can do for our club she does it. Yes she stands behind me and waves my arms and tells me how to do my job as your President. Behind every successful man is a woman telling him what to do. We just had our Christmas party, and as always, it was a great one. Kathy Fuller did an excellent job of setting everything up, and we had a Marine there to collect our gifts. The food was great, and we had an excellent DJ Larry Big Fish Calhoun on hand to get us in the Christmas www.musiccitybopclub.com mood. It is amazing just how generous our club members are not only was the bottom area of the Christmas tree full of toys, but our members (YOU!) who were at the party contributed $780 in cash for the Marines Toys for Tots program. The MCBC treasury added another $520 to the pot, for a total check of $1,300! Greg Lemmon was the winner of the $75 gift certificate drawing from our monthly birthday parties. Congratulations Greg! NEXT UP, we have our New Year s Eve party this event is in the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel Crowne Ballroom (top floor), and is open to everyone - the price is $50.00 each person. A free Champagne toast at midnight is included, as is a full buffet breakfast after midnight, plus party hats and noise makers. We have set a limit of 150 guests, and have just a few rooms (just 4 rooms left under the room block as of November 30 th ) in a room block at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel, for $119 per night, plus tax (room block ends December 12 th ). We are partnering with our sister club in Nashville the Nashville Dance Club, and we are not out for a profit just somewhere to dance on New Year s Eve. There will be fireworks in Nashville at midnight, and you will have a perfect viewing spot from the top floor of the hotel. We do have a monthly party in December December 15 th to be exact. We also have two Lady Sole line dance lessons scheduled for December 8 and 15 with Michal Ann Scudder as our teacher. As our Club Vice-President her abilities are endless! Speaking of Club officers we held our monthly membership meeting on November 17 th, and voted in our officers for the year 2019. Your Officers for 2019 are the same as in 2018: Me as President Michal Ann Scudder is our Vice President, Ron Cherry is our Treasurer, Sandy Webster is our Secretary (and Membership Coordinator), and Diane Thurston is our Trustee (and

chief photographer). We officers do everything we can to make sure that our members have a great time, but we still need your input to make sure that you are happy, and want to come out every Saturday night. We continue to try new things, and new events that will help a charity, or add to our enjoyment. So, what happens in 2019? A lot depends on what YOU want. The Music City Bop Club is made up of many members that have a say in what we do each week, and each month. The club officers that you voted into office meet each month at our monthly membership meetings to set up functions we think you will like. These are open meetings, and anyone can have the floor to discuss what they would like us to try. You may not get what you want, but you can certainly request something. Or, you can e-mail any officer, including me, and let me know what you think. Restaurant. We ll start the meeting at 6:30 PM, and usually the meeting won t last more than a half-hour. Come on in around 6:00 or so and have dinner before the meeting, or just walk in at 6:30. Next as you all know by now, the Music City Bop Club is a member of the American Bop Association (ABA). Each year the ABA sponsors a cruise, with a small portion of your cruise fees returned to the ABA club who has a member signing up as a member of that club. We had voted many years ago at one of our membership meetings that each of our members who attend the cruise, and sign up as being affiliated with the Music City Bop Club, will receive the cruise refund that is returned to us from the ABA. This year we had six members who signed up as Music City Bop Club members. The refund is not a huge amount of money, but their $17.00 refund is just what the Music City Bop Club does for its members. 7 Days from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida - the American Bop Association Fifteenth Annual Dancin' On The High Seas Cruise will feature stops at Princess Cay, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Remember to sign up as Music City Bop Club members to get the refund back that the Music City Bop Club receives. This is where I talk about the ABA Meeting that USUALLY happens every January. If you remember last year the weather was so bad the ABA officers decided to hold their meeting in MARCH. Same place (Millennium Maxwell House Hotel) Last item - We continue to have drink specials and we currently have special pricing from the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel 20% off on all appetizer prices and drinks. See you Saturday night! Randy We usually meet the 2 nd Saturday of the month, in the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel Praline s There is a new ABA cruise coming up in 2019, from February 22nd to March 3rd. This cruise is sailing for

MUSIC CITY BOP CLUB THERE WILL NOT BE A SUMMER BOOGIE BLAST IN 2019 We are faced with increased costs from various sources; and have decided not to have our Summer Boogie Blast party in 2019. The costs to host an event the size of the Music City Bop Club Summer Boogie Blast have been a challenge over the years, and the cost to produce Summer Boogie Blast 2019 far exceeds anything we could have imagined just a few years ago. We have always been proud of the party we have produced for our family of friends and to do anything less would be unfair to all of us. For 30 years the Music City Bop Club has welcomed thousands of dancers to our Annual Birthday Party, our SUMMER BOOGIE BLAST. For 30 years we have made friends all across America, and for 18 out of the last 19 years we have enjoyed a sold-out event. The friends made, and the experiences we have had over the last 30 years are numerous, and will give us all many memories to cherish, as well as our slogan Feet Don t Fail Me Now!. We at the Music City Bop Club have always prided ourselves on giving our Summer Boogie Blast participants a Southern Hospitality style of party, where everyone is treated as our family of longtime friends. We have prided ourselves on our charitable contributions, and have joyfully given tens of thousands of dollars to the Foundation Fighting Blindness and Wounded Warriors as well as other charities over the years. We are not comfortable with paying increased party costs and reducing our contributions to those who need our help. The Music City Bop Club will continue to dance at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel in Maxwell s Lounge on each and every Saturday night and we invite you to join us every time you can. Sincerely, Randall Fuller - President Doug Brown Past President and Co-Party Coordinator Kathy Fuller Co-Party Coordinator
