JUST A MINUTE, JESUS lesson 30 BIG IDEA Do we really give Jesus our undivided attention and time? Do we allow him to be a part of everything we do? Do we remove him from parts of our lives? Are our hearts the same as those who crucified Jesus? KEY VERSES Luke 23:32-34 MEMORY VERSE Luke 23:33-34a When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. PREPARATION & MATERIALS BIBLE LESSON: SKIT Props: table, chair, bible, powder, book, remote control, two pieces of wood to make loud knocking sounds Cast: person, friend, Jesus GAME Disposable cups, about 50 Rope or tape for starting line CRAFT Experience Mission provides scissors, hole punch, stapler, staples, rulers White paper, two per child Oil pastels (or crayons and rubber erasers) Hand wipes for clean up WORKSHEETS Photo copies of Coloring Sheet (1 per child) Photo copies of Work Sheet (domestic communities only)

BIBLE LESSON SKIT lesson 30 Drama begins with Person walking into the room where Jesus stands waiting for them. Person: (apologetically) Jesus, it's so good to see you! You know, I haven't been spending much time with you lately, Lord, and I'm really sorry! But I've been SOOO busy these days. There's been work and that night school course and...wow...so many people to see! But you know Lord, all that is going to change. I've really missed my time with you, and tonight, I've set aside the WHOLE evening to just talk and spend time together- no appointments, no parties, no studies - just you and me! And you know what... (person picks up a Bible from the table and blows the dust from it) I'm even going to spend some time reading your word. (sheepishly) I haven't been doing much of that lately either! Friend: KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK Person: (looks over shoulder but decides to ignore the interruption) Yes, Lord, it will be just like old times! Friend: KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK (more insistently) Person: One minute, Lord. There's someone at the door. I'll be right back. (Person opens the door) Friend: (with great excitement) Hey, Julie! Glad I caught you in!! Didn't you know? There's a GREAT party going on at Greg's place! What are you doing cooped up in the house - come join us! Person: (a little excited) It sounds great...(disappointed and resigned) but...no, no I can't come, I have other plans tonight. Friend: (with disdain) Oh, come on! What could be more important than one of Greg's parties? Don't you remember the last one? IT WAS GREAT!! Person: (insistently) No, really, I can't...i've made another commitment. Friend: Well, all our friends will be there. Person: (surprised and excited) Everyone? Friend: Yes, Fred and Pam and John and Samantha. Everyone. Person: (resolve melting) Really? It s been so long since we ve all hung out. I guess I can come for a little while just for an hour or so. Friend: (with disdain) An HOUR?! Come on...at least three hours! This is going to go for half the night! Person: No, just an hour...really! Friend: Listen, you just come down and we'll see if you can drag yourself away!! See you in 10 minutes or so?

BIBLE LESSON SKIT (PAGE 2) lesson 30 Person: Okay! 10 minutes! Bye! (Person closes the door and rushes for the mirror checking their appearance totally ignoring Jesus. Then suddenly notices him standing there.) Oh Jesus! You won't believe what has happened! Something URGENT has just come up, and I'm going to have to leave you for just an hour or so, but I'll be back and then we'll spend time together, just like I said. See you in a while. Person: (Person turns and walks to the door, but realizes that Jesus is following. Turns around to explain.) (good-naturedly) No, Jesus. You don't understand. I'm going out, but you are staying here. I'll be back very soon, though, and we'll have a good time talking together. Okay? Person: (Person moves toward the door again, but same thing happens.) No, no, Jesus. Listen, I'm going out, but you can't come. Don't worry, I'll be alright and you wouldn't want to be there anyway. It's not really your scene. See you in an hour or so! Person: (Person moves toward the door again, but same thing happens.) (a little frustrated, but still positive) Jesus, we aren't communicating here! What can you do while I'm gone? Here have a seat. Hmmm...I know, you can read a book! This one is quite good! (Person hands Jesus a book from the table, but as he reads, he is disgusted! Person realizes that isn't suitable) OHH, not that book (Person snatches book from Jesus' hands, with a nervous laugh and starts to look for something else for him to do). Hey! How about some television? (with remote control flicks on television, but finds none of the channels suitable for Christ's viewing) OHH, no... (click) AHHH? No!... (click) MMM (shaking their head, turns TV off). Listen, let's forget the television right now! Just make yourself at home - RELAX. There's pizza in the freezer, cake in the fridge. You know where the microwave is, don't you? Just help yourself, okay? I'll be back as soon as possible, just relax! Person: (Person moves toward the door again, but same thing happens.) (getting frustrated) Please stop following with me! Just stay where I put you! You are not coming with me, okay? I can take care of myself for a few hours - I don't need you. Just stay here! Person: (Person moves toward the door again but same thing happens.) (angry and cynical) Listen! I don't have time for this any more! What? You don't understand English or something? Stay HERE! I told you I'd be back, okay? Just wait for me here!!! Person: (Person moves toward the door again but same thing happens.) (very angry) How many times do I have to tell you to stay (knock) where (knock) I put (knock) you! (on words "stay" and "put" Person nails Jesus in the position of the cross - twice On the first hand, once on the second then turns and briskly and angrily walks out the door). Reproducible curriculum produced and written by Matthew Pole. Adapted visually and/or translated for use on short term mission trips by Experience Mission.

BIBLE LESSON SKIT (PAGE 3) lesson 30 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Do you think this story is realistic? 2. What things do people make more important than time with Jesus? 3. Why was the Jesus character following the person out the door? Did Jesus want to party? 4. Can a person really include Jesus in some parts of their life and keep him out of other parts? 5. When the person got angry and made Jesus stay, did that remind you of anything? 6. Why did Jesus die on a cross? 7. Did he stay dead? 8. How can you show Jesus that you want him to have first place in your life?

After 10 seconds players run back and tag the next player who races to flip more cups Players can flip any cup, even one that the other team has already flipped.
