Dee Dee's is different musically, but is still wonderful. Betty has the definitive version though.. Carole R. Posted - 22/05/2009 : 19:50:51 Well,as we're talkin bout other versions of this song, and whilst I don't doubt that Dee Dee Warwick and Betty Everett released very commendable versions, the version that was a hit in the UK was The one by the Mersey band 'The Swinging Blue Jeans' To be honest,up until recent times it was the only version I was aware of...and I LOVED it! 2242 Posts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ud-hefqyffw Carole R xx Sorry Nancy, I'll get back to you re Linda Versus Dusty. This is an obvious example of how the American original was ripped off by the UK acts at the time - I don't really blame them - they are great songs. However Betty Everett deserved the hit record. Edited by - on 22/05/2009 20:23:31 Posted - 22/05/2009 : 21:56:12 I wish we could find a version of Miss Warwick's; I'd love to hear it. dustyspringfield.info/ /topic.asp?to 2/5
Out of the three versions here, I liked Miss Dusty's the best. She combines the passion of Miss Ronstadt's version, the understated power of Miss Everett's version and adds something a little special to it to make it her own. In their own right, all three versions are quite good. I wish she'd recorded a studio version of it, though. Carole R. Posted - 22/05/2009 : 22:05:48 It is a great song;...between the two 'contenders' I think Linda just takes it...but only just. I think Dusty's rendering is better than Linda's. Trek. often called Carole. 1100 Posts misty Posted - 22/05/2009 : 23:43:02 I wish the audio on Dusty's was better. Linda's version very good but not up to Dusty standards. mist y 1413 Posts Posted - 23/05/2009 : 08:06:58 quote: Originally posted by MDF, especially for you here's the divine Dee Dee's oh so soulful version. Thanks so much! I actually do like this one the best of the four. She really gets into the song, and though the arrangement is a little more spare than the others, it actually works in her favor; it makes the song funkier and allows her vocals to shine. Thanks again for that! Posted - 23/05/2009 : 10:04:42 So glad that you like it Posted - 23/05/2009 : 10:24:21 I do, quite. Part of the reason I like it, besides the fact that it's just a good song and well sung, is that I tend to gravitate towards the lesser-known siblings of more famous singers. I like to find out why they're not as famous (Carolyn & Erma Franklin, Dee Dee, etc). Dee Dee certainly deserved to be as famous as Dionne, there's no doubt she can sing. Edited by - on 23/05/2009 10:27:42 memphisinlondon Posted - 23/05/2009 : 10:47:07 All these versions are good. They're just different. I'd prefer to dance to Betty and Dee Dee. To sit and listen to Dusty's cool phrasing and then play a bit of air guitar to Linda's version. Thanks John for the fab Dee Dee download. 3565 Posts Cas19 Wasn't born to follow Memphis Ever since we met...
