Culture Night Offaly 2015 Friday 18 September 2015 Culture Night is a night of entertainment, discovery and adventure across towns, cities and counties in Ireland. In Offaly there are over 30 FREE events right across the county and much to explore, whether you can attend one event or create your own Culture Night trail, we look forward to seeing you out and about on CULTURE NIGHT. Please note some events require booking. ÁRAS AN CHONTAE, TULLAMORE STORM IN A TEACUP OLIVE CUSKELLY AND PAULA FINLAY TV3 s Brian Daly launches a joint exhibition of new works by Offaly artists with work depicting wide open landscapes to the fine bone china of the dresser. Opening 6:30pm TULLAMORE LIBRARY CHILDREN S STORYTELLING WITH PAUL TIMONEY Paul is an artist, children s performer and storyteller from Mullingar. He is well known in the midlands for making our little ones laugh, giggle and be amazed. 5pm REBELS & RICH TEA BY CHRISTIANE O MAHONY A rehearsed reading of a new play written by Christiane O Mahony and directed by Sarah Baxter. Based on witness accounts, Rebels and Rich tea is a fast paced adventure that tells the story of two sisters who join the rebel forces in the GPO on Easter Monday embarking on an adventure that changes their lives forever. This play is a work in progress and audience feedback is welcome. 6.30pm CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION TULLAMORE PIPE DREAMS & MUSIC Prof. Gerard Gillen introduces the amazing sounds of the Church of Assumption s famous Danish Frobenius Organ along with the Tullamore Classical Music School. There will be an opportunity for some members of the audience to try out the organ under supervision. 6pm CHARLEVILLE CASTLE RAHAN COMMUNITY PRESENTS INTERNATIONAL MUSIC & DANCE Jacek Lomejko and friends will entertain with the vibrant sounds of Polish folk music with a touch of classical and jazz alongside Egyptian, Oriental & Indian dance from the Red Embers. Rahan Comhaltas will treat you to the best of Irish Trad. 7.30pm Jacek Lomejko

Kilroy s 9pm OUR NATION S SONS BY JOE CASLIN Ireland s Culture Night Ambassador, Joe Caslin chooses his home town of Tullamore for his latest installation. The façade of Tullamore s Municipal District Office will be transformed with a portrait which makes the statement that we chose not to live in a country where any young man is left behind. The lights dim and the Zoetrope begins to revolve, the images blur, a strobe light starts and the images jump to life forming incredible, smooth animations. See the figures come to life in real time, literally in front of your eyes, without the intervention of screen or film. 6-11pm This installation features strobe lighting. DEFINITIONS OF THE WORD CULTURE BY LYNNE HOARE Artist Lynne Hoare invites all to contribute to a growing exhibition of ideas and interpretations provoked by the word culture in any form at all. What does Culture mean to you?

BIRR THEATRE & ARTS CENTRE PÚCA PUPPETS PRESENTS MARY MARY VIKINGS STORYTELLER Interactive theatre for all the family as Vikings Storyteller Mary Mary delights children and families with an old tale and invites them to respond by drawing or writing their own favourites or to create new characters and stories. Performer Niamh Lawlor of Púca Puppets has extensive experience in interactive storytelling for children. 6pm Suitable for ages 6+ Booking Essential: 057 9122911 McINTYRES PUB, SHANNONHARBOUR LOVE IN THE HARBOUR BY EDDIE ALFORD Eddie Alford of the Harbour Theatre Company together with local actors presents a rehearsed reading of a new play set against the background of 1916 and World War One. The main character is a WW1 ace from Dublin, who falls in love with the receptionist in The Grand Canal Hotel in Shannon Harbour. He is a Protestant and she is a Catholic and not everybody approves. Followed by audience feedback session. 7pm TIN JUG STUDIO, BIRR OUTSIDE IN Pop in on your way by to see a collaboration of Gerry Murphy (film projection & sound) and Rosalind Fanning (artist/writer). A surprise awaits for those 'brave' enough to step in! She holds a performer s diploma from the Royal College of Music in London and won RTÉ s Musician of the Future competition.
