Patrick Pickett CSM B Mus, FTCL, LRAM, ARCM, LTCL, ALCM Welcome to the 2016 Queensland Pops Orchestra subscription series. This year we will bring you some of the concert styles you have grown to love from the Pops, along with some new and exciting concepts. It will be a Best of year in many ways. Exciting entertainers including Rhonda Burchmore, Mark Vincent, Elizabeth Lewis, Jason Barry-Smith, Greg Moore and Mirusia will headline our program. We will again take our concerts into regional Queensland as we expand to be a truly State focused orchestra. Following the wonderful success of our recent appearance, and the many requests, we will return to The Empire Theatre at Toowoomba in 2016. The musicians of the orchestra will be featured in our Best of the Pops concert which will feature the music which you our Friends and subscribers voted for in our recent survey. This concert will be an amazing collection of sublime soloists and breathtaking music from a wide selection of the most popular light classic, movie and musical theatre themes, and outstanding popular solo instrumental works. No Best of the Pops would be complete without our pinup boy Greg Moore. For the first time we will be joined by the students from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University Musical Theatre program to present Rhonda Burchmore on Broadway. This stunning program will present the great songs, dance and music that has featured on the Broadway and West End stages over the last century. The Best of British will return in 2016 as the most popular of the Pops concert designs. Jason Barry-Smith will join with highly acclaimed Soprano Elizabeth Lewis as they perform those much loved Last Night at the Proms hits including Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and the ever popular Sea Shanties. Opening our 2016 season will be the return of Mark Vincent. Mark is now Australia s top selling tenor, and fresh from his highly acclaimed performance in Dirty Dancing and soon to be released duet album with Marina Prior, he will bring us Best So Far. Join us in 2016 to be entertained by Queensland s vibrant freelance professional orchestra, The Queensland Pops Orchestra.
Saturday 5 March 2:30 & 7:30pm QPAC Who better to launch the dynamic new 2016 concert season of Australia s most entertaining orchestra than tenor singing sensation Mark Vincent who has carved out an impressive career on the concert stage since winning the third series of Australia s Got Talent in 2009, aged just 16. Mark s commanding stature and powerful voice earned him a contract with Sony Music, which resulted in no less than five albums making the ARIA Classical Top 20 music charts, with the Compass and The Great Tenor Songbook both certified gold in Australia. We warmly welcome Mark back to the Pops fold after his spectacular debut at the 2014 Best Of British concerts. Mark will showcase his biggest hits in his very own Best so Far drawing from a broad repertoire of the most memorable songs of all time. This will be a concert not to be missed!
To quote Mark Vincent himself: Music is in me. You know, when you're born with something inherently in you? I think we are all born with a voice capable of singing, but not everyone has it in them to use it. I grew up listening to all the beautiful arias, and I feel that when I sing, I really am the happiest guy on earth. All my troubles are gone. And you know, many people have a great voice, an exceptional voice even, but what's missing is the storytelling. It's not just about singing notes; it's always, always about telling a story. The orchestra will feature with some of the most beautiful music from the theatre and they will support Mark in some of the greatest songs of all time.
