In 2017-2018 Sarasota Musica Viva will expand its collaborative efforts with new partners Sarasota Contemporary Dance and Saint Boniface Episcopal Church to present programs featuring new and rarely performed musical masterpieces that appeal to diverse audiences that expand, enrich and engage the community. Sarasota Musica Viva is proud to feature nationally notable, local musicians - your clients, friends and neighbors - in its programs. All of our musicians live in greater Sarasota so ALL donations, concert revenues and sponsorships go straight back into the community to help it grow and prosper, not out of state bank accounts, booking agents or repressive regimes. In 2015 Sarasota Musica Viva was formally organized as a 501(c)(3) non profit IRS tax exempt entity and registered as a charitable organization with the state of Florida. The core group includes nationally notable musicians all of whom reside in the greater Sarasota area including Linda Bento-Rei, Ann Alton, Michael Cloutier, Shawn Snider, and Susan Knapp Thomas. Sarasota Musica Viva presents performances of new and rarely performed musical masterpieces featuring music for cello, drums, flute, harp, piano, percussion, viola and violin. Unlike most musical organizations in Southwest Florida, Sarasota Musica Viva is the only group that features nationally notable musicians all of whom are residents of greater Sarasota - your clients, friends and neighbors. This means that every grant dollar, every ticket sale and all revenue goes right back into the greater Sarasota community. These revenues help our community to grow and prosper. Support local musicians support Sarasota Musica Viva - performances that engage, enrich and expand. Please visit www.sarasotamusicaviva.org for more information on our world class musicians, organization and plans for the future. Statement from the Board Chair Like all performing arts organizations Sarasota Musica Viva is battling the slow but continual demographic decline of audiences who enjoy the fine arts but particularly classical music and jazz. The vast majority of our supporters are age 50 or older. The dearth of younger attendees can be directly attributable to deep if not complete budget cuts affecting the arts, particularly music education, in school systems nationwide for the last 40 years. In an effort to build new audiences all Sarasota Musica Viva musicians pass along their musical 2

talents to a diverse group of students of all ages and abilities. Sarasota Musica Viva musicians also share their talents in presenting master classes to students throughout the country. We also present free concerts for the benefit of various local charities to fund and expand music education and help alleviate the issue of homelessness. All of these efforts will eventually lead to a wider audience that appreciates the many timeless classical music masterpieces and new compositions written in classical style. As a further incentive to attract new and younger supporters to classical music Sarasota Musica Viva offers two-for-one admissions for patrons 30 years of age or younger. Statement from the CEO/Executive Director Unlike most musical organizations in Southwest Florida, Sarasota Musica Viva is the only group featuring nationally notable, local resident musicians - your clients, friends and neighbors. PROGRAMS Sunset Classics at Manatee Performing Arts Center Description Sarasota Musica Viva in partnership with the Manatee Performing Arts Center initiated their Sunset Classics concert series in 2016. Minimal funding limited the program to only three concerts, one in partnership with Women, Wine and Wellness. The Sunset Classics concert series was conceived to address the lack of classical chamber music performances of world class quality in Bradenton. Historically, Bradenton was been seriously underserved in the number and quality of all classical music performances relative to the population. Sarasota Musica Viva and Manatee Performing Arts Centers partnered to change this lack of quality classical music performances in downtown Bradenton. The programs have ranged from popular repertoire well recognized by the audience to magnificent performances of rarely heard masterpieces in order to expand, enrich and engage our audiences. Budget $2,400.00 Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Arts, Culture & Humanities, General/Other Musical Performances Yes General/Unspecified Adults Families In three Sunset Classics concerts at the Manatee Performing Arts Center, audience attendance has increase largely through word of mouth communications. This indicates there is a small but growing audience for classical chamber music in the Bradenton area. With funding for additional concerts along with print and social media marketing audiences can be expanded further. The ultimate goal of the Sunset Classics concert series at the Manatee Performing Arts Center is to grow a continual demand for classical music chamber concerts in the Bradenton area. The Bradenton area is historically underserved in terms of the total number of classical music concerts presented when compared to southern and northern neighbor communities. Audience surveys and interviews are conducted by SMV volunteers before and after every concert venue. The results are reported and discussed at quarterly board meetings. Audiences have continued to grow with each successive Sunset Classic concert at the Manatee Performing Arts Center. 4
