BASIC COMPOSITION.COM MLA BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATIONS (END-TEXT CITATIONS) CITATION BASICS Bibliographic Citations are placed on a Works Cited page. Typically, the Works Cited page is always the last page of an MLA document. The word, Works Cited, appears centered on the top of the page. The bibliographic citations on the Works Cited page are alphabetized by the last name of the author. In most cases, even the authors in each bibliographic citation are alphabetized as well. AUTHOR LISTING Last Name, First Name. (1 author) Last Name, First Name and Last Name, First Name. (2 authors) Last Name, First Name, Last Name, First Name, and Last Name, First Name. (up to 3 authors) Last Name, First Name, et al. (more than 3 authors) Corporation/Organization/Institution/Association. Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway, Ernest and Faulkner, William Hemingway, Ernest, Faulker, William, and Tan, Amy Hemingway, Ernest, et al. The Ernest Hemingway Appreciation Association EDITORS Use ed. for single editors. Use eds. for two or more editors. TITLES Titles of short works (articles, essays, etc.) and books do not require full capitalization (only the first letter of the title is capitalized). Furthermore, short titles do not require quotation marks. Titles of books appear in italics. Titles of Journals are fully capitalized and usually appear in italics. When you capitalize a title, you should capitalize all of the words, except for conjunctions and prepositions (unless they appear on the beginning or the end of the title, then they are capitalized).
