SAG DECEMBER 2012 NEWSLETTER SPRINGFIELD ART GUILD JOIN US FOR OUR ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY On Wednesday December. 12, 2012 at the Richard Byrd Library The party starts at 7 p.m., cocktail type affair with finger foods. A warning will be given at 7:45 p.m. so that bids can be finalized before the 8 p.m. closing. SAG members are to bring creatively wrapped Silent Auction WHITE ELEPHANT items with something of value inside. There are no special items required, like art supplies, though that would be fun. A mug and some freshly baked brownies would be one gift I d like to win! Vases, jewelry, dolls, ties, books, art, etc. Use your imagination as you look around your home to see what you once loved but can now part with! One sealed envelope of Bidding Bucks will be given to each SAG member bringing an auction item or items regardless of how many items he or she brings. Extra items have a designated purpose, so bring them! Winning Bids will be announced, three, four or more at the same time so as to speed up the distribution. At that time, to insure that one s name can be heard, please keep the excitement volume turned down. Seriously. Afterwards, a surprise awaits for SAG s guests and in order to carry off the surprise, I need to know how many will be attending. CALL FOR SAG ARTISTS The Franconia Government Center Show Reception: Saturday January 5 from 1-3pm The date for hanging will be Saturday December 15, 2012 at 11 am. Our work will remain on display until Saturday February 23, 2013 All persons interested in participating in the Franconia Government Center show are welcome to submit up to 5 pieces of art. This is not a juried show so all submissions will be considered. If the number of submissions exceeds the space available some works will not be accepted. Every attempt will be made to hang at least one work from each person who signs up. Hanging space may be the determining factor. All work must be framed or presented on gallery wrap canvas with proper wiring on the back of each piece. Any work that does not meet these minimal standards will not be accepted. Each work you bring to be hung must have an identification tag attached to the back. The tag must include: 1) Your Name 2) The title of the work 3) The medium with which it was created 4) And the size (dimensions) of the piece. Three dimensional and relief works are also welcome. A glass case is available to us for the purpose of such presentations. The size of these works should not exceed 12 high X 12 wide X 8 deep. The last day for sign up will be Friday Decmber 14th 2012. If you wish to sign up by E-mail please include 5) Your Name 6) The title of each work 7) The medium with which it was created 8) The size (dimensions) of each piece. 9) And your E-mail address or contact information. Labels will be produced using this information. When submitting information by e-mail forward it to the attention of the show coordinator, Reggie Garrett at: reggiedrew@aol.com. You must include the letters SAG in your subject line. All participants must be present at the Franconia Government Center no later than 10:30AM to sign their work in on the day of the hanging. You should be able to find this policy and a list of DVD s available for your use on the website. Contact information is included. Options for check out and return: 1. Members may request items by: Email telephone at the meeting 2. Members may receive and/or return items: A. at the meeting (contact the librarian prior to the meeting to make sure she is attending) B. have it mailed to them C. mail it back to the librarian, at member s expense (contact librarian to make sure she is in town) D. make arrangements with the librarian to pick up or return at her home address (contact the librarian to make sure she is in town DO NOT drop off items without her knowledge) E. make arrangements with the librarian to meet at a mutually agreed upon place and time. Check out: Check out is for 1 (one) month. If not returned, a reminder will be sent on the 31st day or soon thereafter, according to librarian s availability. The reminder will include the replacement cost of the materials, any shipping/handling and applicable taxes. The member may choose to return items immediately, pay in full (all above expenses for replacement within 10 days), or replace the items personally within 2 weeks. No other items may be checked out; Member will be in suspension for SAG sponsored exhibiting and any other member opportunities (beyond attending general/board meetings) until return or restitution is made. Each member using the library will, one time, be given a copy of the library policy which will be signed by the member and placed on file by the board designee. This will constitute an understanding and acceptance of the lending policy of the Springfield Art Guild. The Springfield Art Guild library currently holds up to forty DVD s. These art instruction DVD s cover a variety of mediums and procedural technics. If you would like to donate a DVD to our library collection that would be shared with all of our members, please contact our librarian, Charlotte Landis.
