Synopsis The Acting Bug is Antonin Artaud's story which is then Mister Loyal of a circus of learned fleas, quarantined for being suspected of being affected by the plague. Although he is put away from the public, locked into an isolated cell, he continues to tame his fleas for a next show. Mister Loyal feeds his small animals of his own blood, although, the more he waters them, the more his health gets worse. Fleas, them, go perfectly well in these conditions and realize incredible performances and totally new ever seen figures. Inspired by the "extraordinary" physical and spiritual qualities of these invisible actors, Mister Loyal manages to escape by the tower of the prison to merge in the middle of the crowd where he makes play his microscopic treasures. The Acting Bug stages real, imaginary, digital and mechanical fleas in a delirious tale inspired quite at the same time by an Antonin Artaud and by a Tex Avery movie. Photo Mario Del Curto A flea circus A " flea circus " evoke a kind of entresort in which fleas have been attached to miniature trolleys and to other articles, and encouraged to execute acts of circus in a small space. Lenses of Fresnel rose of all the sides to allow visitors to look at the attraction. A number of electric and magnetic mechanisms were used to increase the exposed item. In certain cases these mechanisms were responsible for all the movement and just fleas released in the exposed item maintained the illusion. There are different types of flea circuses. In the first place, those with the real fleas inside - they can be alive or died ; it is really possible to raise fleas. Sometimes, fleas " of phase " were stuck on the base of the fence and it warmed, to give the impression that they play the musical instruments. When dead fleas are used, they are transformed into artistic objects. They are then painted to look like the real fleas. Some " flea circuses " contain no flea. However, a lot of people is convinced that there is. This has an inverted effect when the real fleas are used. Flea circuses were shown for the first time in 1833 in England, and it was the main attraction of the carnival until 1930. Some fleas circuses persisted in the United States to the 60s. Because the flea circus largely became a lost art, the information, which exists nowadays, is largely trivial or stemming from a too old knowledge, and is not based. Patrick Sims December 2012
Photo @ Jean-Pierre Estournet The flea circus which originally used real fleas, from now on rarely used, even not at all. The flea circus which questions the presence of these interpreters, as the text of Artaud questions the presence of any real virus. The flea circus is a theater of the purest shape. The spectator, due to his sensation of incredulity is obliged to imagine the presence of a being who does not exist The plague is a theater of the purest shape. Just as the plague, the theater weaves again the links between what exists and what does not exist in the substantial nature. The theater of the cruelty The infinitesimal The parasitism The knowledge and the cognitive understanding The faith healing / disease The magnetism Photo @ Mario Del Curto
Les Antliaclastes Les Antliaclastes are a puppet theatre company based in Maillet, France. The company is under the direction of Patrick Sims, founder and former creative director of Buchinger s Boot Marionettes. Les Antliaclastes use a unique blend of puppetry techniques and styles, masks, machines, and original organic soundtracks. The primarily wordless performance moves ahead fluidly through its countless surprises and often violently contrasting images. In Hilum, there are many references to classical, popular, hermetic and contemporary- visual and performing arts, music, cinema and literature. They are all delicately balanced in a highly original way that often eludes verbal interpretation.
