Music Mission Statement The mission of the Oskaloosa Music department is to give all students the opportunity to develop their potential and selfexpression in music, both individually and as a group. Students will have the opportunity to develop lifelong skills and appreciation for K-5 General Music Students will express themselves through singing, moving, playing, creating and listening to Elementary (Grades 4, 5) Orchestra Students will perform by applying basic principles of tone production and knowledge of music notation. Elementary Band (5 th Grade): Elementary band students will demonstrate an understanding of basic technical and music reading skills. 6-8 Vocal Every student will work together as a team to create an ensemble in which they are proud. Each choir member will develop proper vocal technique and fundamentals enabling the singer to perform independently. Middle School Band Students will express themselves through musical performance individually, in small ensembles, and in full ensemble format. They will demonstrate characteristic tone quality, music literacy and performance skills through a variety of technique studies and literature. 6-12 Orchestra Students will refine their musical skills in rhythm, note reading, intonation, tone production and expression through a variety of solo and ensemble literature.

Chamber Choir Students will refine their musical skills in rhythm, note reading, intonation, tone production, and expression through a variety of solo and ensemble literature. Students will develop skills that will enable them to be successful in performing challenging choral repertoire. Concert Choir Students will work together, as a team, to create an ensemble. Each choir member will develop vocal technique and be given a well- rounded music fundamentals background that will instill the performance skills needed to be an independent singer. High School Band Students will express themselves through musical performance.
