Eynsford Concert Band Conducted by Mike Smith Sunday 10th May 2015 The Mick Jagger Centre 1
A Message from our Musical Director A warm welcome to our 2015 Spring Concert, Inventions. As always, a lot of thought has gone into the programming of pieces we are to perform this evening. They are all to do with great inventions, some of which are obvious as to their inclusion, whilst others may need your imagination. All will become clear as I explain our reasoning, however tenuous, prior to each piece. This will be our final public performance as reigning National Concert Band Champions following our outstanding achievement at the 2014 National Concert Band Symposium in June last year. As champions we have been invited back to perform at the gala concert that concludes this years National Concert Band Symposium, being held in Canterbury on Sunday 28th June. We would love to see you there to listen to some fabulous original wind band works which will really stretch the band to its maximum. In addition to being crowned National Champions, 2014 proved a bumper year in terms of fundraising for our chosen charities. Our second joint concert with the Band of the Grenadier Guards in October raised 6,000 for SSAFA (the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association). In addition we were delighted to send The King s College Hospital Critical Care Unit a cheque for 3,840 raised during our Christmas concert in Dartford, a band quiz night and subsequent memorial concert held at Gads Hill School in memory of band friend Sally Hergest.
Looking ahead, planning is well underway for a number of band events in 2015, including a much anticipated return concert with the Band of the Grenadier Guards in Sevenoaks. Due to the Grenadiers busy schedule, this year s concert will take place on 22 nd November which should make the run into our Christmas performances quite a challenge. Prior to this, we will also be undertaking our annual August performance at Swanley Fireworks before travelling up the M1 to spend some time with our friends in Doncaster Concert Band over the August bank holiday weekend. To keep fully up to speed please visit our website at www.eynsfordconcertband.co.uk which contains details of all our performances and other news. It just leaves me to thank you for your continued support and I hope you enjoy listening to the great sounds of Eynsford Concert Band, a great invention in its own right.
