reface Glory raise is a name that resonates in the fiftyyear history of contemporary atholic liturgical music Originally published in 177 by North American Liturgy Resources (NALR), the first volume was a collection of songs by the remarkable group of pastoral musicians who made up the second wave of folk composers of the post-onciliar era, most notably arey Landry and the composers who came to be known as the St Louis esuits Bob ufford, ohn oley, Tim Manion, Roc O onnor, and an Schutte, whose song Glory and raise to Our God inspired the publication s title In an era when periodical missals were still trying to define a common repertoire, Glory raise helped to establish the guitar-based folk style as mainstream, and it played an important role in reducing the need for parishes to create their own home-printed songbooks, the prevailing custom at the time As Glory raise grew in popularity, new music publishing prompted NALR to release Volumes 2, 3 and 4, which included songs by Grayson Warren Brown, Rory ooney, the ameans, Michael oncas, Tom Kendzia, and many more These were eventually followed by a comprehensive hardbound edition that included an Order of Mass and a modest selection of well-known traditional hymns O acquired the NALR copyrights in 14 and published its own version three years later: the bestselling Glory raise, Second Edition That version reflected the growth in atholic liturgical repertoire with the inclusion of Spanish and bilingual songs, new complete Mass settings, a comprehensive salter, and a number of songs by newer composers such as aime ortez, Bernadette arrell, Bob Hurd, aul Inwood, Scott Soper, hristopher Walker, and others Now, almost twenty years later, O is proud to release Glory raise, Third Edition, which reflects the continuing growth and development of liturgical music in North America The Mass settings utilize the official texts of the Roman Missal, Third Typical Edition, and the Order of Mass features the IEL chants as required by the Bishops ommittee on ivine Worship In addition, the assembly edition with lectionary readings features verbatim settings of the Responsorial salms and Gospel Acclamations from O s very popular Respond Acclaim series Spanish and bilingual songs have been carefully selected to serve those occasions such as hristmas and the Easter Triduum when the diverse communities of a parish come together for liturgy Many songs popular with youth from the Spirit Song repertoire are likewise included, especially those that have crossed over into mainstream usage And, in this third edition, O is pleased to include songs by such composers as avid Haas and Marty Haugen that were not included in the second edition, as well as a significant number of traditional hymns, some with contemporary guitar arrangements In short, Glory raise, Third Edition presents a common repertoire for the cross-generational, English-speaking communities of the hurch today We want to acknowledge the dedicated work of our liturgical composers, both past and present, without whom the various editions of this hymnal would not be possible We also express our gratitude to the internal staff and external consultants who worked so diligently on this proect Without the talents and hard work of these dedicated individuals, this new edition would not have seen the light of day May the Lord who gives light to our days unite our diverse communities into one! May our song ever be, Glory and praise to our God! ohn Limb, ublisher Exaltation of the Holy ross September 14, 2015
